See The Completely Restored Car, Before It Roars Uphill At The Goodwood Festival...
The Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off tomorrow and is highly regarded as one of the most coveted motorsports events in the world. Nestled within the picturesque grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, the event promises a thrilling spectacle for automotive enthusiasts worldwide.
One of the vehicles headed to Goodwood tomorrow is the iconic No. 43 Petty Enterprises 1970 Plymouth Superbird driven by NASCAR legend “The King” Richard Petty. While Petty has taken the wheel of a few of his famous Mopar race cars up the driveway at Goodwood House, this year, the torch passes to his son, Kyle Petty, a retired NASCAR Cup driver who won 8 races in his own right.
Ahead of its debut at Goodwood, Kyle has meticulously prepared the Superbird, ensuring every nut, bolt, and engine component is primed for the demanding hill climb. The Superbird, with its distinctive aerodynamic profile and raw HEMI power, embodies an era when speed and style defined American muscle cars. Its presence at Goodwood promises a glimpse into racing history and a visceral experience as it roars up the 1.17-mile ascent.
The Petty Family Racing YouTube channel recently posted a video of the car just before it was shipped to England. It shows Kyle taking the HEMI®-powered Superbird for its first test drive after it was restored in Level Cross, North Carolina.
