While most of us were focused on the unveiling of the all-new fifth-generation 2021 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L here in North America, the Jeep brand also had another huge unveiling on the other side of the globe. Jeep India rolled out the updated 2022 Jeep Compass for the India market on Thursday, showing us the updated Compass for the first time in a right-hand-drive (RHD) application.
Looking at the exterior of the updated Compass, you can see the full LED package projector headlamps which are standard across the lineup. A new updated seven-slot grille showcases honeycomb-like grille inserts integrating the classic “waterfall” design. The all-new front bumper design features a larger air dam with new LED fog lamps located higher up in the fascia.
The exterior update also features a new range of wheels across the lineup, however, there really are no changes to the side or the rear of the vehicle compared to the 2017 to 2021 models. The old optional LED taillamps are now standard across the lineup as well.
What really stands out about the Compass update is the completely revamped interior. Originally thought to be a tablet-design for the infotainment system, is, in turn, the same 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system showcased on vehicles like the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2021 Dodge Durango, and the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Instead of being integrated into the instrument panel (I/P), this time the Compass features it in a new floating form.
The completely new I/P is the highlight of the interior. The new contemporary styling drastically updated the Compass’ overall interior appearance. There is a new double-stitched leather mid-bolster that looks more like it belongs in a Tesla than the Jeep models we have come accustom to. There is plenty of brushed aluminum-like trim and Gloss Black interior pieces that help make the interior look and feel more premium than ever before.
The same 10.25-inch Uconnect 5-based digital cluster from the all-new Grand Cherokee L can also be found on the new Compass. Letting the driver to custom tailor their information presented in the display.
A dual-pane panoramic sunroof lets the sunlight into the new cabin, while an Alpine 9-speaker audio system offers plenty of power to crank up the best tunes for your next road trip. The Jeep team even redid the HVAC controls to make them feel more upscale and by repackaging the center console, you can now equip your Compass with wireless charging for the first time from the factory.
Under the hood for the India-spec models are two different powertrain options. There is a 2.0-liter Multijet II diesel producing 173 horsepower and 350 Nm (258 ft.-lb.) of torque. The diesel can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. Customers can also choose a 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir inline-four-cylinder gasoline option with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 1.4-liter delivers 163 horsepower and 250 Nm (184 ft.-lb.). Compass diesel models can be equipped with a four-wheel-drive (4×4) with Selec-Terrain modes.
The India-spec 2022 Jeep Compass began production on December 21st, at the Ranjangaon Assembly Plant. The new model should be arriving in Indian Jeep dealers soon.
The North American-spec 2022 Jeep Compass is scheduled to start production at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico in April. We expect that Jeep should be unveiling that model within the next month.
