Jeep® Compass (J4U) 4xe Makes Debut with Up To 375 Horsepower
New Compass Rides on STLA Medium Platform with EV Range up to 404 Miles
Jeep® has just pulled the wraps off its next-generation Compass (J4U) for the European market—and it’s more capable, more spacious, and more electrified than ever before. Built on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform, this completely redesigned compact SUV is poised to become the brand’s most global model yet.
Rugged Design Meets Modern Refinement –

The new Compass gets a sharper look inside and out. Its boxier stance and rugged design cues—like the signature seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, and bold body cladding—highlight its Jeep heritage while enhancing off-road presence. Up front, you’ll find ultra-slim LED headlights and an updated grille, while the rear features X-shaped taillights tied together by an illuminated Jeep logo.
Bigger Footprint, More Interior Space –

It’s bigger too. The Compass now measures 179.1 inches long and 75.9 inches wide, with a wheelbase stretched to 110 inches. That translates into an extra 2.2 inches of rear legroom, a 34-liter (1.2 cubic feet) front cabin storage compartment, and a max cargo capacity of 550 liters (19.4 cubic feet). Jeep even managed to add a more spacious trunk without compromising interior flexibility, thanks to the standard 40:20:40 split rear seat.
Three Electrified Powertrains, Including Three BEV Variants –

The new Compass offers three electrified powertrains, each tuned to deliver a unique blend of performance and efficiency. The base model uses a 145-horsepower 48-volt mild hybrid (mHEV) setup. A 195-horsepower plug-in hybrid (PHEV) adds more electric range, while three fully electric variants bring real excitement.
The entry-level BEV makes 156 horsepower and powers the front wheels. A mid-tier BEV steps up to 213 horsepower, also in FWD form, and both use a 74 kWh battery pack that balances range and performance. At the top of the lineup is the high-output AWD BEV, delivering 375 horsepower and 3,100 Nm (2,287 lb-ft) of torque at the rear axle—enabled by a Jeep-exclusive rear motor and 14:1 gear reducer. This range-topping variant also uses a version of the 74 kWh battery, optimized for dual-motor output and off-road capability.
With up to 404 miles (650 km) of WLTP range, 160-kW DC fast charging (20% to 80% in 30 minutes), and a 22-kW onboard AC charger, Jeep has clearly focused on making its BEV lineup practical, quick to recharge, and ready for real-world use. Aerodynamics were also optimized, improving drag by 10% thanks to a flatter underbody, aero wheels, and active grille shutters.
Ready for Anything—On or Off the Road –

Capability is where the Compass continues to shine. Even front-wheel drive versions boast 7.9 inches (200 mm) of ground clearance, a 20° approach angle, a 15° breakover angle, and a 26° departure angle. For AWD models, those angles improve to 27°, 16°, and 31°, respectively. A maximum water fording depth of 18.5 inches (470 mm) gives it serious trail chops. Selec-Terrain with multiple drive modes is standard across the lineup, and all AWD variants come with Hill Descent Control.
Tech That Feels Premium –

Inside, the Compass gets a huge tech upgrade. A 16-inch center Uconnect 5 touchscreen and 10-inch digital instrument cluster come standard, along with over-the-air (OTA) update capability. Level 2 driver assistance is standard, providing semi-autonomous highway driving and city support. Premium options like a head-up display, LED matrix headlights, semi-automatic lane changes, and smartphone-based access push the Compass into premium SUV territory.
Nature-Inspired Color Options That Tell a Story –

The new Jeep Compass is available in six distinct exterior colors, each carefully selected to reflect a specific natural environment and evoke the emotion tied to that landscape. These shades not only highlight the vehicle’s adventurous spirit but also create a strong visual link between the SUV and the world it’s built to explore:
-
Hawaii – A vibrant and bright green that captures the lush energy of tropical islands. As the Compass’ official launch color, it symbolizes vitality, renewal, and freedom.
-
Pacific – A deep, serene blue inspired by the vast, open waters of the Pacific Ocean. This hue evokes calmness and the call of boundless exploration.
-
Antarctica – A crisp, pure white representing the snow and ice of the Earth’s southernmost region. It conveys clarity, resilience, and the stark beauty of untouched nature.
-
Amazonia – A rich green tinged with brown, echoing the Amazon rainforest’s deep foliage and earthy tones. This color embodies mystery, life, and natural strength.
-
Yosemite – A solid, elegant gray that pays tribute to the granite cliffs and iconic Yosemite National Park rock formations. It reflects stability, endurance, and rugged grandeur.
-
Volcano – A powerful, glossy black inspired by the volcanic island off Sicily’s coast. It symbolizes raw energy, depth, and bold individuality.
Each color has been chosen to emotionally connect the driver to a part of the natural world—blending style with meaning in true Jeep tradition.
Italian-Made, Globally Focused –

Built in Melfi, Italy, the new Compass is the product of Jeep’s global development team, with engineering led by teams in Turin and the U.S. The Melfi Assembly Plant—recognized for its green credentials and automation—will be the production hub for Europe and other markets outside North America. While the U.S. version was initially expected to be built in Canada starting in 2026, Stellantis has paused plans there due to tariff concerns, which could delay its arrival stateside until late 2026 or early 2027.
Diesel Is Out, Electric Is In –

Notably, Jeep has pulled the plug on diesel power for the Compass in Europe—a clear signal of its shift toward electrification. Diesel once held over half the market share in this segment, but the shift to PHEV and BEV powertrains aligns with customer demand and emissions regulations.
The North American version is still under wraps. Rumors point to a 2027 model year launch from the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, but with Stellantis pausing operations there back in February, its future remains uncertain. We’ve contacted Jeep for clarification and will share any updates as soon as we hear more. Stay tuned.
