This past weekend at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, Jeep® Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar pulled the covers off a seriously cool new concept—the Awning and Rooftop Tent (ARTT) system. Designed specifically for the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JL), this sleek setup is a lightweight, low-profile, all-in-one solution for hardcore overlanders and casual weekend warriors alike.

What makes the ARTT concept so unique? For starters, it ditches the bulky roof rack setup we’re used to seeing with rooftop tents. Instead, the tent and awning system is housed in a carbon-fiber shell that mounts directly to the Wrangler’s roof. The result? Better aerodynamics, lower weight, and easier handling on and off the trail.
Developed in partnership with outdoor gear brand Dometic and conceived through the Stellantis Star*Up intrapreneurship program, the ARTT is packed with features designed with real-world adventure in mind. It unfolds into a spacious rooftop tent using Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation tech and includes a 270-degree swing-out awning. There’s enough room inside for a queen-size mattress, and here’s the kicker—you can access the tent from inside your Wrangler via the removed freedom panels. No ladder required. There’s even a slick carbon-fiber interior step that protects the center console.

Jeep showed off the ARTT system mounted to the rugged Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser Concept, first revealed at the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. Finished in a vibrant Solar Flash color with Satin Black accents, the plug-in hybrid Sunchaser also features a 2-inch lift, concept fender flares, rock rails, a Warn winch, and 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3s—all making it ready for real overlanding.
Mike Koval, Jeep® Senior VP of Jeep Sales Operations, put it best: “The lightweight and compact JPP Awning and Rooftop Tent concept is the perfect accessory for adventure-seeking Jeep Wrangler owners…whether they’re overlanding across long distances or going on a spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway.”

For those keeping tabs, we actually spotted the patent for the ARTT back in February on the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website, so it’s great to finally see the concept live and in action.
Backed by the full might of Mopar engineering, JPP continues to push boundaries in the off-road accessories game. Whether you’re crawling through the desert or camping deep in the woods, the ARTT concept proves Jeep is still at the top when it comes to serious trail-ready innovation.
