Hot Wheels Releases Fast and the Furious 2023 Series With Lots Of Mopars
Series Returns For The First Time Since 2021...
The Fast & Furious franchise has been captivating both car enthusiasts and moviegoers since its first release in 2001. Throughout the series, a range of high-performance Mopar vehicles has been featured, including the legendary Dodge Charger and the sleek Dodge Viper. While some of these cars may be beyond the financial reach of many, collectibles offer an affordable opportunity to own similar models that are true to the original designs.
Hot Wheels is set to release a Fast & Furious-themed basic assortment in 2023, marking the first such release since 2021. The assortment includes ten cars, each representing a vehicle from the film franchise in chronological order. Each casting is themed to a specific car from the movies and all are manufactured in Malaysia.
Given that half of the cars in the collection are Mopars, let’s take a quick glance at the latest Hot Wheels assortment, specifically focusing on the Mopar side of the set.
The orange 1970 Dodge HEMI Challenger R/T driven by Darden in 2 Fast 2 Furious plays a significant role in the film’s climax. Brian and Roman use the Challenger, along with a Yanko Camaro, in a high-speed chase to evade the police and escape with Verone’s money. The Challenger is equipped with a clever engineering feat that allows the driver to eject the passenger seat using half-empty bottles of NOS hooked underneath.
Furious 7 – Dom’s Off-Road Charger –
The “Off-Road” Dodge Charger R/T was made with off-road capabilities and designed to resemble a car from the original Mad Max films. It was built with a “Pro-2 chassis with a Dodge Charger body on top”. Eleven Off-Road Chargers were built during the production of Furious 7, with subpar shells often being used. The car was powered using LS and SRT motors.
Fate of the Furious – Dom’s Ice Charger –
During the attempt to hijack the Akula Submarine, Dom uses a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T that has been heavily customized with a rear-mounted engine and an EMP that he can control from inside the car. The vehicle was specifically modified to drive on ice, but ultimately gets destroyed when Dom uses the turbine flame to direct a heat seeker that takes out the submarine, causing his car to go down with it.
The 2023 Fast and Furious Hot Wheels basic set features several iconic cars from the franchise, such as Brian’s ’95 Mitsubishi Eclipse from The Fast and the Furious, Han’s “Mona Lisa” Nissan Silvia S15 from Tokyo Drift, Fenix’s ’72 Ford Gran Torino Sport from Fast and the Furious, the black Toyota Supra that Brian and Dom won in a street race from Fast Five, and the ’70 Ford Escort RS1600 that Brian drove in Fast and Furious 6.
