HEMI-Powered Charger Daytona Concept Brings Retro Muscle

David Baylis Reimagines the EV Charger with Bold Retro Styling...

Digital automotive artist David Baylis (@davidbaylisdesign) has create a follow-up concept to his design we highlighted last week. His latest creation adds vibrant character and a new layer of nostalgia to the EV-based Charger Daytona, while also taking design cues from Dodge’s golden muscle car era.

The updated render showcases the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona with an aggressive stance, nodding to the classic 1969 Charger but with a modern twist. While his first design kept things relatively subdued, this new version ups the ante with a sleek Dark Orange paint job that demands attention.

Baylis has further refined the look with bold styling enhancements: pronounced hood scoops, a widebody aerodynamic kit, and redesigned wheels. Perhaps the most striking feature? Twin rectangular exhaust outlets—an unmistakable trait from modern-day Mopar muscle cars.

What makes this project stand out is Baylis’s focus on balance. Rather than going for an over-the-top, drag-strip-only Charger, he envisions something practical but still wildly powerful. In his reimagined world, this Charger Daytona SRT8 houses a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) HEMI V8, delivering a robust 600-650 horsepower. That’s more than enough to make it a step above the twin-turbocharged HURRICANE-powered Charger SIXPACK, which Baylis also cleverly referenced in this conceptual hierarchy.

This concept car isn’t just a throwback—it’s a masterclass in blending retro charm with futuristic ideas. Fans of Dodge’s muscle car heritage and modern enthusiasts alike are praising Baylis for bringing a fresh perspective to the debate about whether the V8 deserves a comeback in the Charger lineup.

With such imaginative creations, Baylis proves that automotive design can bridge the gap between past and present, even in the EV era. His work reminds us why muscle cars have such a devoted following—and why we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to the growl of a HEMI engine.
