HELLCAT The World: HEMI HELLCAT Hauler Goes To Auction At Mecum Dallas:
1978 Dodge D-300 Adventurer Now Packs HELLCAT Power!
Over the past several years, we have seen a number of custom builds featuring the awesome supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® HELLCAT V8. It seems that everyone is throwing a HELLCAT V8 into something these days. But this might be one of our favorite builds, simply because it is in a vehicle that you would expect to see such an engine in.
What started life as a 1978 Dodge D-300 Adventurer Prospector Edition Club Cab dually, powered by a 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) V8 is now a slammed custom pickup rocking 707 horsepower. House of Mouse Racing, you might remember them as the people behind that amazing HELLCAT-powered 1968 Dodge Coronet cop car that was one of the highlighted vehicles on the 2019 Hot Rod Power Tour, created this 1-ton beast of a pickup.
The truck incorporated many parts from a donor HELLCAT vehicle besides the powerplant, like the radiator, hoses, most of the air conditioning system, all of the intercooler parts and various hoses, and even the Challenger SRT HELLCAT marker lights were blended into the pickup’s body.
Ditching the 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission in favor of a 4L85E automatic transmission by Gearstar with multi-stage clutched converter and a Dana 70 posi rear-end with 4:11, the HELLCAT-powered dually can make runs down the 1/4-mile in 12.5-seconds according to House of Mouse Racing.
The truck also features a custom-built air ride suspension system, a custom 4-link suspension system with a Watts link setup, and a set of Cali 20-inch x 8.5-inch dually wheels wrapped with 275/50ZR20 Nitto rubber. House of Mouse Racing also had custom dually fenders made, which reminisce with the older square-body GM pickups of the late-80 and 1990s.
Inside, the truck features Dakota digital gauges, a Vintage Air conditioning setup, and a touchscreen navigation system with a rear-facing camera. A set of modern leather bucket seats with seat belts, a folding armrest that folds into a center seat, and a rear bench with two hidden compartments, help make the interior feel much more updated.
Nevertheless, this truck looks amazing and it appears that someone could be taking it home on Saturday, September 11th, 2021, as it will cross the auction block at the Mecum Dallas event. The Diamond Crystal White with Anodized Blue Pearl stripes colored truck will be one of the stars of the show. For those who are looking at bidding on this beast, you can visit the Mecum website for more details.
