This past weekend, we got to catch up with the 2023 Jeep® Scrambler 392 Concept that debuted at the 2023 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. The Scrambler 392 Concept was one of a trio of concept vehicles that the Stellantis Design team had on display at their cars and coffee event.
Building upon the legacy of the original Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8) introduced in 1981, this modern incarnation combines the beloved open-air experience with a powerful twist. With its remarkable features and bold design, the Scrambler 392 Concept has taken the compact truck segment to new heights.
The iconic CJ-8 was the first convertible compact truck from the Jeep brand. Retaining the CJ-8’s spirit of versatility and capability, this unique small pickup truck features a longer 103-inch wheelbase and an extended rear overhang, providing ample cargo space and enhanced practicality.
Leaping forward in performance, the Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept incorporates a potent 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine, offering an impressive output of 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. While a V8 engine was never available in the CJ-8, this powertrain elevates the driving experience to new levels, making the Scrambler 392 Concept a force to be reckoned with on and off the road.
To further enhance its off-road capabilities, the Scrambler 392 Concept utilizes custom carbon-fiber bodywork, emphasizing lightweight construction without compromising durability. This transformation gives the vehicle a sleek, sporty two-door aesthetic while staying true to its open-air nature. With a laid-back windshield angle and a lowered roofline, the Scrambler 392 Concept exudes a sense of adventure reminiscent of classic chopped-top hot rods.
Introducing the newly released AccuAir air suspension kit adds another exciting feature to the Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept. Initially developed for the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator, this system allows for adjustable suspension lifts ranging from 1.5 inches to an impressive 5.5 inches. Whether navigating challenging terrains or cruising on the highway, the Scrambler 392 Concept provides customizable ride heights at the touch of a button using an in-cab controller or wirelessly through long-range Bluetooth on a compatible device.
The sculptural rear quarter panel of the Scrambler 392 Concept accentuates the door aperture and is complemented by wider rear flares. The updated bodywork includes a new front fender flare and a striking carbon-fiber hood. Positioned in the middle of the hood, a tinted clear insert showcases the heart of the vehicle – the powerful HEMI motor. Custom lightweight bumpers and new fender flares ensure ample clearance for larger tire and wheel combinations, while the 40-inch tires mounted on custom 20-inch rims with Brass Monkey paint finish exude a commanding presence.
Stepping inside the Scrambler 392 Concept, you are greeted by custom seats featuring blue plaid inserts and green stitching, perfectly complementing the vibrant Sublime green exterior paint. This attention to detail creates a visually striking and inviting cabin that combines comfort and style seamlessly.
The 2023 Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept embraces the essence of the original CJ-8 and injects it with exhilarating power and modern features. With its commanding HEMI engine, lightweight design, adaptive suspension, and bold aesthetics, the Scrambler 392 Concept redefines what a compact truck can achieve.
