The first Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Design Cars + Coffee event of the year was held yesterday. Last year, most of the events that the design team held was plagued with rain and it was on the back of the mind of many considering all of the rain Southeastern Michigan has been getting over the past couple of weeks. Despite severe thunderstorms in the afternoon, the morning was perfect for diehard Mopar and/or car enthusiasts to come out and gather around some of the coolest cars around the Metro Detroit area.
We were excited to see the four concept cars and one car from the heritage collection at the event. The Product Design Office brought three of their concepts from the Moab Easter Jeep Safari, which included the Jeep J6 Concept, the Jeep Gladiator Flatbill Concept, and the Jeep M-715 Five-Quarter Concept. They also rolled out their Ram 1500 Low Down Concept from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show and one of three remaining 1963 Chrysler Turbine cars in existence.
There were at least a few hundred people who turned out for the event, while we were there. The entire lot of the Alfa Romeo/Maserati North American Headquarters (the former home of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum), was completely full of vehicles. While there were modern Mopars like Charger, Challenger and 300 models throughout the lot, there was a ton of classic Mopar vehicles throughout the decades as well. While the show also brought the attention of lots of other makes such as Ferrari, Audi, Ford, Chevrolet, and many others.
Many from the FCA Design staff we also at the event, checking out people’s rides, mingling, and getting feedback from the public. The great thing about the FCA Design staff is many of them are hardcore car enthusiasts themselves. Even Head of FCA Design, Ralph Gilles was there in his restored Alfa Romeo GTVR.
We can’t wait for the next FCA Design Cars + Coffee. Its a great event for all ages and for those who love cars. We hope those who are available around the Metro Detroit area this summer, will be able to attend the next one. Stay tuned as continue bringing several fun Mopar-themed car events over the summer. If you know of a Mopar-related car meet, car show, or gathering, be sure to send us the information.
This next weekend, we will be hanging out with the Windsor Area Modern Mopar (WAMM) this next weekend for some drag racing at the St. Thomas Raceway Park and will be participating in one of our 2014 Dodge Charger R/T AWDs.
