This past week, the FIAT officially launched its all-electric Fiat 500e in the Japanese market. The launch in Japan continues to show FIAT’s intention to grow the 500e in the international marketplace.
For Japan, the 500e is available with an 87-kW (118 horsepower) electric motor and a 42kWh lithium-Ion battery that offers a top speed of 150 km/h or 93 mph (self-limiting), acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 9.0 seconds and 0-50 km/h (0 to 31 mph) in 3.1 seconds.
The Japanese market will have three different models to choose from…
- Fiat 500e Pop Hatchback – ¥4,500,000 (or about $36,342 USD)
- Fiat 500e Icon Hatchback – ¥4,850,000 (or about $39,168.60 USD)
- Fiat 500e Icon Cabrio – ¥4,950,000 (or about $39,976.20 USD)
FIAT is the first automaker to launch an all-electric convertible in the Japanese market with the Fiat 500e Icon Cabrio.
The three models are equipped in a pre-configured way. This means the only option available for each model is the choice of exterior color. The Japanese-market 500e is available in five different exterior colors. Those colors include Ice White (N/C), Rose Gold (¥ 55,000/$444), Ocean Green (¥ 55,000/$444), Mineral Grey (¥ 55,000/$444), or Celestial Blue (¥ 110,000/$888).
“After its debut in Israel and Brazil, now it’s Japan’s turn to welcome the [500e] on its tour outside of Europe – remarked Olivier Francois, FIAT CEO and Stellantis Global CMO -. The [500e] is the best-selling electric city car in Europe and, furthermore, in Italy it is the best-selling electric car ever and in Germany, it is the best-selling electric car after Tesla. And now I’m thrilled to see how it will be received in Japan. The Japanese market already accounts for over 60,000 drivers and fans of the iconic 500, even in its Abarth version. This growing community will surely value its 100% electric evolution and will even be able to appreciate it in the home of the hybrid giants.”
Designed and built in Turin Italy, the 500e is a handsome, connected, technologically advanced machine that has distinct Italian styling aimed to make the daily drive fun. It combines a 100% electric propulsion system, which guarantees sustainability and efficiency. The 500e has already had success in Europe, winning 29 awards from both the general public and experts in automotive, design, and lifestyle media.
For those of you who have wondered if the new 500e will come to the North American market, we reached out to FIAT for an answer. FIAT North America continues to say “FCA US, LLC is evaluating its potential for the North American market”. While it’s not an official yes or no, we think it would be a solid choice for the Italian brand to help build some much-needed attention to its FIAT dealer base in the North American market.
