Fiat Argo Hits 700,000 Units Built In Brazil
Compact Hatchback Cements Its Role As One Of Brazil’s Strongest-Selling Car
The Fiat Argo has reached a major production milestone in Brazil, surpassing 700,000 units built at the Stellantis Automotive Hub in Betim, Minas Gerais. Introduced in 2017, the compact hatchback has become one of Fiat’s most important models in South America, consistently ranking among the country’s top-selling passenger cars.
In 2025, the Argo’s momentum has remained strong. With more than 92,000 units registered so far this year, the model currently sits as the third best-selling car in Brazil. That performance places it firmly within the nation’s most competitive segment, where affordability, fuel efficiency, and practicality are key decision factors for buyers.

From its launch, the Argo was designed to appeal to a wide range of consumers. Fiat positioned the hatchback as a versatile solution for urban commuters, young buyers, and small families alike. Its compact dimensions make it easy to maneuver in crowded cities, while its interior layout and equipment levels provide everyday comfort and usability.
A significant turning point for the model came in 2023, when Fiat introduced versions equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) paired with the 1.3-liter Firefly engine. Producing 107 horsepower, this powertrain helped position the Argo as one of the most fuel-efficient automatic vehicles in its class. In city driving, the combination delivers fuel consumption of up to 12.8 km/l, a key advantage in a cost-conscious market.

Rather than relying on dramatic redesigns, Fiat has focused on steady updates to keep the Argo competitive. The 2026 model year lineup reflects that approach, offering the hatchback in four trim levels and adding wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay in versions equipped with a multimedia system. This upgrade aligns the Argo with modern connectivity expectations while maintaining its accessible price positioning.
The Argo’s importance extends beyond Brazil. While production is centralized in Betim, the model is also exported to neighboring markets such as Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. These exports reinforce Brazil’s role as a regional manufacturing hub for Stellantis and strengthen Fiat’s presence across Latin America.

Fiat leadership views the milestone as a reflection of long-term consumer confidence. “Achieving 700,000 units produced reinforces not only the importance of Fiat Argo in the market, but also the trust that customers place in Fiat. Argo is an example of how the brand manages to meet the needs of the Brazilian consumer, with technology, performance and excellent cost-benefit,” said Frederico Battaglia, Vice President of Fiat and Abarth Brands for South America.
Nearly a decade after its debut, the Fiat Argo continues to prove that well-executed, efficient compact cars remain essential in Brazil’s automotive landscape.
