MOPARs at the Red Barns: A Spectacular Weekend of Classic Chrysler Cars

Exploring the Magnificent World of Mopars...

This past weekend, the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, hosted the 32nd annual “MOPARs at the Red Barns” show and swap meet. As car enthusiasts gathered from all over the world, the event once again lived up to its reputation as West Michigan’s largest all-Chrysler products car show. With an impressive display of over 350 muscle cars and antiques, the show celebrated the rich automotive history of the iconic Chrysler brand.

The Gilmore Car Museum, North America’s largest auto museum, proved to be the perfect venue for this automotive extravaganza. The museum, founded in the early 1960s by Donald S. Gilmore, began as a passion project for vintage automobile collection. Donald’s initial acquisitions, including a 1927 Ford Model T, a 1913 Rolls Royce, and a 1920 Pierce Arrow, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. With the support of his wife, Genevieve, they transformed their collection into a museum, fulfilling their dream of sharing these unique vehicles with future generations.

The Gilmore Car Museum’s historic campus, sprawling over 90 acres, boasts a stunning collection of vintage structures. Among them is a meticulously restored 1941 Silk City Diner, where visitors can step back in time and experience the charm of the 1940s dining culture. Additionally, a recreated 1930s Shell gas station and a train depot from the 1890s add to the immersive experience of automotive history.

One of the highlights of the “MOPARs at the Red Barns” show and swap meet was the diverse range of vehicles allowed on the show field. Attendees had the pleasure of admiring any car, truck, or other form of transportation manufactured by or for “Chrysler,” which included renowned brands such as Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, and Jeep, among others. The exhibition paid homage to the rich legacy of Chrysler products, but excluded vehicles manufactured by other automakers before being acquired by “Chrysler” or under the control of companies like Daimler/Benz and Fiat unless specifically badged as a Chrysler product.

The swap meet area, with over 100 vendors, delighted visitors with a treasure trove of offerings. From new and used parts to die-cast collectibles, tools, crafts, and more, attendees could find a variety of automotive gems to add to their collections.
