FCA Announces Ramp Up To Full Production Schedule:

Some Plants Are Back To Three Shifts...

As the automotive industry ramps up production as the COVID-19 pandemic shows signs of decline, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced its North American production schedule to return to its normal operations. Since restarting its North American manufacturing operation in mid-May with one-shift, the company has been using its new protocols adopted by its other operations around the globe.

An operator at FCA’s Brampton (Ont.) Assembly Plant installs a removable plexiglas partition in the engine compartment of a Dodge Challenger to maintain proper distancing between the employees. (FCA).

As of yesterday, only three of the company’s assembly plants have returned to a three-shift work schedule. Those plants include the Jefferson North Assembly Plant (JNAP) in Detroit, Michigan (which builds the Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango), the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan (which manufactures the Ram 1500), as well as Windsor Assembly Plant (which produces the Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Voyager, and the outgoing Dodge Grand Caravan).

An employee at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant prepares to restart the line, wearing all of the personal protective equipment required to keep everyone safe. (FCA).

Both the JNAP and SHAP facilities use a 3-2-120 operating pattern. For those who aren’t familiar with the 3-2-120 pattern, the plant operates with three crews working two 10 hour shifts, over four days, for a total of 120 production hours per week. The Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant (which builds export Ram 1500 Classic, Ram Heavy Duty, and Ram Heavy Duty Chassis Cab) also runs a 3-2-120 operating pattern, but won’t have a third shift until Monday, June 8th.
