Family-Owned 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Hits Auction

Restored Texas Classic With Upgraded 318 V8 And Vintage Style

A well-preserved and tastefully upgraded 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring is now on the market, offered on BringATrailer.com. Originally purchased new from River Oaks Chrysler-Plymouth in Houston, Texas, this Mopar has remained in the same family since day one—an increasingly rare claim for a 1970s B-body. The seller, who inherited the car from his parents in 1998, oversaw an extensive refurbishment that stretched from 2001 through 2008.

The project began with a full repaint in charcoal gray metallic, complemented by a new black vinyl roof. The exterior retains its factory charm, with Satellite Sebring sail-panel badges, bumper guards, and a single driver-side mirror. The underside was coated in durable POR-15, and the trunk received the same treatment for longevity.

Under the hood, the original 5.2-liter (318 cubic-inch) V8 was rebuilt and lightly modified for better performance. The engine was bored .030-inch over and fitted with ported cylinder heads, a COMP Cams camshaft, and an Edelbrock intake topped with a four-barrel carburetor. The ignition system now uses Accel components, and the radiator was re-cored into a three-core setup for improved cooling. Exhaust gases exit through ceramic-coated TTi headers feeding a dual MagnaFlow exhaust system, giving the car a deep, aggressive tone.

Power flows through a Torqueflite 904 three-speed automatic transmission to a Sure-Grip limited-slip rear end, which now features 3.23:1 gears for a solid mix of highway manners and off-the-line punch. Suspension work during the refurbishment included a front sway bar, new components throughout, and rear air shocks for ride adjustability. Braking comes courtesy of power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The car currently rides on 15-inch Cragar wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires (235/70 front, 255/70 rear), though a set of original 14-inch steel wheels and hubcaps are included.

Inside, the bench seats were reupholstered in white vinyl with red-and-black houndstooth cloth inserts sourced from SMS Auto Fabrics. The interior retains its classic vibe but benefits from modern touches, such as a Kenwood CD stereo and a trio of auxiliary gauges below the dash for oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage. The original carpeting remains, but the lower door panels and padding were replaced. The seller notes the fan switch works only on low, and while the air conditioning system was rebuilt, the condenser needs repair.

With just 77,000 miles showing—around 10,000 added by the current owner—the Satellite Sebring presents as a clean, driver-ready classic. It’s accompanied by its original broadcast sheet, owner’s manual, and spare parts.

Bidding for this family-owned, performance-upgraded 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring ends Monday, November 17 at 2:13 p.m. EDT on BringATrailer.com.
