A stunning 1968 Dodge Charger R/T is set to cross the auction block at Mecum Dallas on Saturday, September 7th, 2024. This classic American muscle car has undergone an extensive custom build, making it a standout among collectors and enthusiasts.
This particular Charger R/T started life as a factory 1968 hardtop and has been meticulously transformed into a modernized yet respectful homage to its original form. The car is painted in the vibrant 2006 shade of Go ManGo (PVE) paint, a color that catches the eye and gives a nod to Dodge’s heritage. The factory-style white interior has been refreshed, featuring unique Go ManGo-colored pleats that tie the exterior and interior together seamlessly.
Under the hood, this Charger is powered by a rebuilt 5.5-liter (505 cubic-inch) stroker V8 engine. This powerful engine is equipped with Trick Flow 270 cylinder heads and an Indy Cylinder Head Mod Man intake manifold, ensuring optimal airflow and performance. Fuel delivery is handled by a Holley Sniper fuel injection system, while a Hyperspark ignition system keeps the engine firing smoothly. Exhaust gases are expelled through 2-inch ceramic-coated headers and a 3-inch exhaust system, complete with Flowmaster mufflers for that deep, throaty sound muscle car fans love.
The car is also equipped with modern conveniences like Vintage Air air conditioning, making it as comfortable as it is powerful. Stopping power comes from a Hydroboost disc brake system, paired with a Wilwood master cylinder, and upgraded Wilwood 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers. The suspension has been significantly improved with a QA1 front setup, including tubular A-arms and a K-member, along with upgraded torsion bars to handle the increased power and provide a more refined driving experience.
The power is transmitted through a new TCI 727 automatic transmission, and the rear end has been upgraded to a Strange S60 setup, ensuring the drivetrain can handle the engine’s output. Other notable features include an electric headlight conversion, a custom hand-made steel one-piece hood with a Challenger T/A scoop, and Dakota Digital gauges for a modern touch inside the classic cabin.
This Charger also benefits from an American Autowire wiring harness, ensuring reliable electrical connections throughout. The fuel system has been upgraded with an Aeromotive stealth fuel tank with an in-tank pump and braided steel lines, enhancing both performance and safety. The steering has been upgraded with a Borgeson steering box, and the engine is dressed with a CVF Racing front-runner serpentine system. To keep things cool under the hood, a Pro Form low-profile aluminum radiator and fan have been installed.
Aesthetically, the Charger retains its classic appeal with a Tan vinyl top and a White R/T tail stripe. It rides on new 17-inch American Racing mag-style wheels wrapped in new radial tires, giving it a timeless yet aggressive stance.
This 1968 Dodge Charger R/T is a perfect blend of classic style and modern performance, making it a highly desirable piece for any collector. It’s set to be one of the highlights of the Mecum Dallas auction, and it will undoubtedly attract significant attention from bidders and spectators alike.
