What Did We Learn From The Stellantis Software Day 2021 Presentation?

Three New Tech Platforms, Over-The-Air Updates, More User Experiences...

Stellantis has mapped out its software strategy to deploy next-generation tech platforms, building on existing connected vehicle capabilities to transform how customers interact with their vehicles, and to generate approximately €20 billion ($22.58 billion) in incremental annual revenues by 2030.

This transformation will move Stellantis’ vehicles from today’s dedicated electronic architectures to an open software-defined platform that seamlessly integrates with customers’ digital lives. It greatly expands the options customers have to add innovative features and services via regular over-the-air (OTA) updates keeping vehicles fresh, exciting, and updated years after they have been built.

I feel this could be a huge investment into the long term resale value of their fleet of vehicles. This kind of approach could make small car and midsize car's more profitable as they shall retain their resale value more like larger vehicles currently do.

One growing frustration is that people in late model vehicles do not get the software updates of newer vehicles. I recognize reasons to incentives early adopters to "upgrade" may yield profit impacts, but that race has to end somewhere. Once one provider offers a good experience in upgrading and keeping your late model vehicle somewhat fresh - that will get out quickly and make a 3yo vehicle worth a lot more than similar 3yo is now (sans the strange Covid shorting issue at present)

I imagine this comes at a short term possible impact to revenue - where there /may/ be fewer people who rotate out of their vehicle due to the fact the one they have just got an "upgrade" - but I venture to say a good % of those are on this board..... The mid and long term effects could generate brand loyalty until everyone else follows-suit.

I don't think STLA is the pioneer in this space - as others are doing this already but not as strategic or holistically it seams.
