I like the updates, however, it's been tougher and tougher to move Challengers the past year. The 2015 refresh and creation of the Hellcat created the momentum to carry the car 4 model years, and the Demon created buzz, however, I feel that has already fallen off.
We are still awaiting the first rebate on Challenger/Charger of any significant amount to make it a car we not only sell, but order. The V6 Challenger market is dominated by ex-rentals and hence destroyed their residual value. The 5.7L Hemi trims are too similar in price to the 6.4L Hemi trims that the R/T trim has become a no-order for most dealers. The removal of the "SRT" trim has created confusion for buyers, and the Hellcat continues to be out of most people's price range.
The other issue I am seeing is that the pre-owned market for 2015+ Challengers has grown to a point that few are wanting a new one, knowing that a low kilometre pre-owned can be had for $10s of thousands less. A pre-owned 6.4L+ sells quickly.
Recently I purchased this for our dealership
:
2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat with 25,000 kms. Despite being 5ish model years old, the car has held its value well with the lower kms. That being said, the widebody variants of Hellcats on the horizon don a $100,000+ MSRP which we all feel with fall firmly on its face the same way the Trackhawk has. The Trackhawk, FCA's first entry into $100,000+ MSRP since the Viper, has been a monumental failure in Canada. We currently have a 2018 Trackhawk, still brand new, with an MSRP over $125,000, that we cannot give away at $96,000 ($10,000+ loss to us). Canadians don't want to pay $100,000 for a domestic.
Anyway - back to my main point. It's time for a new Chally/Charger.
