Stellantis will need one or even two additional large factories for electric vehicles batteries in the United States to reach its output targets, the company's chief executive, Carlos Tavares
“We have had a very simple strategy since long before the Inflation Reduction Act,” Tavares recently told TheDetroitBureau.com. “Our strategy has always been that in a given region, what you sell in that region needs to be sourced from that specific region, above 80%. That’s for all sorts of reasons. It can be cost competitiveness, can be custom duties, can be logistic costs, can be environmental, for our carbon footprint.”

shipping batteries which are a extreme fire hazard is difficult. so yes they need to be regionalized.

The new US federal EV tax credit is the driving force behind several automakers' efforts to source and/or create electric car batteries on American soil. It gives consideration to where the battery is made and obtained from in addition to where the electric vehicle is made.
