Stellantis Shifts Focus to Ramcharger as Market Moves to REEVs

Stellantis Shifts Focus to Ramcharger as Market Moves to REEVs

Ramcharger to Lead, REV Delayed Amid Shift to REEVs...

Last month, we discussed that Stellantis would be pushing back its launch of its all-electric Ram 1500 REV. However, yesterday, Stellantis confirmed a strategic pivot in its electrified Ram Trucklineup, prioritizing the launch of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). Consumer orders for the Ramcharger will open in early 2025, with production starting by summer.

I sincerely hope this model arrives sorted out. I'm also hoping for success for this power train because it will be used on some Wagoneer models and also something similar is rumored to be offered for a future Jeep Wrangler/ Gladiator.

Some of the truck component/axle vendors have shown solid e-axles for medium and HD trucks. Most of the designs basically have the e-motor attached to the differential. It would be interesting to see something like a Ram Power Wagon using the Ramcharger's engine-generator combo with solid e-axles front and rear.

Rumor that 1500 REV and Wagoneer S will be cancelled altogether. Smart decision, if true, as the all electric market is collapsing globally. More telling is that upwards of 50% of current electric owners want out as fast as possible from their bad decision. Pure hybrids have a future, but billions have been wasted on these giant paper weights on wheels. Delaying the Dodge Charger Daytona for months, maybe over a year truthfully, must follow. Chrysler should forget the all electric plan immediately building a 300 sedan off the Charger Six Pack sedan.
Ram must concentrate on a midsize pickup, and Jeep on a next generation Cherokee and Dodge on Six Packs and the rumored V-8 offered Cuda and shift all production to US factories that have the capacity to build multiple vehicle models on the same line. Reality and market forces must prevail.
The future of Stellantis is at stake, they must take their lumps, but these rumors and suggestions from consumers seem like only the starting point to profitability.

BYD Shark series PHEV truck is a good example of a successful REEV, I'd say, in Mexico and Australia. Looking forward to getting a Ramcharger here in northern Utah. Sure seems to be what we want, and coming earlier than Scout Terra with Harvester engine.

The BYD Shark (along with the Ramcharger) fails the latest rules for zero emissions in California and the 17 states that follow the CARB rules. As of last week in 2026 35% of vehicle sales must be zero emissions, but 20% of those may be a qualifying PHEV. The EPA and CARB are both jamming the new rules through during the holiday period and before the inauguration of Trump 47.

The UK is ahead of CARB on their zero emissions timeline. While we were busy with our election the UK was working on rationing petrol car sales. New Years Day is next week and it will be 2025, so one year later in 2026 stuff here will hit the fan. The window of opportunity for change is very small. Top priority is preventing WWIII, so the new car market is down on the list.
