Stellantis announced it has written off a €1.5 billion ($1.57 billion) investment in Maserati’s electrification efforts. This decision, confirmed by Stellantis Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Doug Ostermann during a recent earnings call, signals a major shift in the brand’s strategy, which initially aimed for full electrification by 2030. Maserati’s plans to offer all-electric versions of its models, including the highly anticipated MC20 Folgore sports car, have now been put on hold.

Of course they did. It was suicidal to think Maserati could survive all electric. Remember in essence Stellantis is THE company and every brand in that company need not be solely or offer any electric models. Maybe Chrysler, but never, ever Dodge or Maserati. Maybe Lancia, but never Fiat. Stellantis bosses asked “do you offer electric vehicles ?” Answer, “ well of course but not these brands”.
Thrilled Maserati, a brand I long to own, did the right thing, the absolutely right thing. I hope Dodge follows and ditches the Charger Daytona that with some sheet metal changes and a new grill can become a Chrysler, a brand that can carry hybrids and electrics only and flourish. Recouping Dodges investment too.
Bottom line ….of course they did. More to follow.
