Stellantis has announced that it is starting the selection phase of internal personnel for its first Circular Economy Hub in Mirafiori, an important initiative for the company’s decarbonization strategy. The hub will focus on promoting a sustainable business model, and a dedicated project team with specific skills has been created to drive circular economy development and growth targets.

Although this policy might seem like just pandering to the environmental lobbyists, there appears, in my opinion as a pragmatist on this issue, some serious and sound business decisions here. The implementation of this important decision will involve a major change in engineering that creates recycling capabilities and economies into everything going forward. If electrification takes hold, which I have reservations about, the capturing and reuse of rare and expensive batteries and components will have a dramatic effect on controlling, at a bargain, these important resources. Customer loyalty can be enhance by offering monetary incentives to trade in used electric cars and the implementation of electronic updates seamlessly, at little or no cost to owners, also promotes brand loyalty.
I could be cynical and be overly critical on this new initiative, but in all honesty,this one has legs. The devil here is in the details and getting it right.
