While the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 has been making all of the headlines under the Ram umbrella, Ram will offer both the outgoing 2019 Ram 1500, known internally as the “DS” model, and the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 (“DT”) at its North American dealers through the 2018 calendar year. The outgoing “DS” model will carry the Classic nameplate for 2019.

“As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn’t want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand — FCA. “Ram will continue to produce the 1500 Classic targeted at entry and commercial buyers.”

The 2019 Ram 1500 SSV returns to the FCA US Fleet Law Enforcement lineup. The SSV is powered by the 5.7L-liter HEMI® V8 engine that pumps out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The HEMI® V8 engine also gets a heavy duty engine oil cooler. For improved efficiency, Fuel Saver Technology deactivates half of the engine’s cylinders when less power is needed. The HEMI® V8 engine also features Stop/Start technology for improved efficiency by shutting down the engine when it would normally idle and automatically restarting it when the brake pedal is released. A 6-speed automatic transmission with column shifter is standard on the package.
