President Trump Pulls the Plug on Electric Vehicle Push

New President Declares Energy Emergency, Reverse Course on EVs...

President Donald Trump wasted no time making his mark on U.S. energy policy, declaring a “national energy emergency” and signing a flurry of executive orders on his first day back in office. Among the most significant moves for the auto industry is the elimination of what Trump calls the“electric vehicle mandate.”

Love my ice vehicles!!! 2 Rams=1 heavy duty -2500 4x4 1-3500 chassis cab 4x4 dually we also have 2-300 C's and 1-gen 1 1995 Dodge Viper. So don't think I'm in love with EV's! But I would hate!!! to see GM, FORD, and my Love!!!-the Chrysler brands, all fall behind!!! in the tech of these vehicles! I think a mix including hybrids/ice/Ev's should be done by all of em. to Sock Elon in the face!!! Now to all, and My fellow Mopar fans! who do you think the Fox in the Henhouse is? 1 Answer!!-Elon Musk!! he is smiling all the way to the bank! have you ever thought who will benefit more from President Trumps decisions? ask this? A man who hates EV's-(Trump) and a man who makes a living on them arm, in arm? seems Musk supporting trump has an ulterior motive! -( with supporting Trump I will continue to be the EV king! and grab all the young folks up!) cause the big 3 will back off their tech while I move forward with mine! Elon is the fox in the henhouse!

Choosing to live in deep red Oyster Bay, Long Island (yes people, outside NYC, NY is a red leaning state) I’m celebrating the return of common sense and free choice to our lives with our new leader. Clearly this tinges with a mild political theme, but saving the American auto industry, returning jobs to America and letting folks choose anything they want in a car goes to the heart of our free market system.
Billions wasted trying to force people to violate their personal freedoms and deny their basic thinking in the arena of ideas and opinions. Hallelujah, it’s over!
Few would deny the whole auto industry was thrown into turmoil by an empowered group of environmental zealots that had no idea about business, indeed mockingly disparaging the free market system and its participants and attempted to make an unproven theory reality through licensed coercion. Hallelujah, it’s over!
Let’s look forward to our “Golden Age” not only in the American auto industry, but in our lives as well. Politically tinged perhaps, but I’m not the only one smiling ear to ear. Hallelujah!

I too live on Long Island (Islip area) and NY being a CARB state I wonder how things will change here if they change at all. Where do they EV tax credits stand in all of this? My understanding is that they are already funded and will remain. If this leads to aggressive deals on the Daytona that would be great (The EVs still need to be sold). That said, I hope the Six packs aren't delayed and I can test one this summer before making a decision.

Wow this decision by the new Administration under Mr Trump just goes to show how out of touch Carlos Tavarous actually was. He should of saw how Ford and others were failing to get real numbers and traction in EV sales.

I wonder how much they spent on ev development compared to emissions paid to Tesla on Hemi vehicle sold.

I just hope that our Government wakes up North of the boarder befor it to late, batteries don’t have a hope in hell of surviving a Manitoba winter, Range is less than 1/2 than in the summer we have winter for 6 months in certain areas and long long areas of no chargers.

Give the people what they want and let the market decide what works best for business, and tell the Government to stop forcing people what’s best for them.

YEAH AHHHHH NO..... Trump can do nothing about the Fleet requirements in CARB states.

CARB state requirement far outpaced the federal requirements. I am a big fan of Federalism which makes this issue tough for me, and very sympathetic to OEMs issue of having to deal with such broad regulatory requirements. Let EV develop with the technology and market forces. If I could wave a magic wand and bestow enlightenment to CARB State statists I would but that is pipe dream. If anything, they will double down just to oppose Trump.

While it good news for the Non-Carb state for OEMs the fleet requirement at the State level remain.

Hope I explained this in a way that is understood. I am not an Advocate of EV past what is market driven, unfortunately CARB state mandates remain and to do business with half the population OEM MUST comply.

I'm sure Trump will schedule a meeting with the auto execs, like he did 8 years ago, and reach an agreement on how to move forward. Killing the electric car mandate is a good plan since we don't have the infrastructure to support it anyway. And, as I'm snowed in today, I'm also listening to my Tesla owning friends who say that they only have about 1/2 the range in cold weather than they do in the Summer heat, it reminds me of what a colossal bad idea it is to mandate that we all drive electric vehicles when better alternatives are available and less expensive. I applaud Stellantis for giving it a good effort but I was never going to buy an BEV from them or anyone else. I still think there is some lifespan left in the ICE and more improvements can be made. I think Hydrogen offers a lot of potential as well. Let's let the free market decide instead of some government bureaucrats.
As far as the CARB states, they are eventually going to get on board with the rest of us the next election cycle as they are falling apart and the people that live there have had enough. It's time for a return to common sense, fairness and good old fashioned hard work. Reducing the cost of energy and transportation will go a long way in reducing inflation for everyone and that is what must be done ASAP.

I'm definitely not anti-EV, but I am anti-gov mandates so this is good news. I don't want to see EV development end, and I would definitely like my next primary driver to be a REEV. I am pro technology and I would like to see technology advance with the market bringing me things that I want. Maybe we'll see the return of the Shelby Mustangs and production of the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 increase to meet demand at least for a few more years. Of course, there will be no Challenger, which is incredibly frustrating.

I bet you right now a Packet of Cookies of your Choice (glutenfree oreos for me)... They Double Down if anything. The blue base has left those states and they are polarizing red, there is no come to Jesus moment yet. NY state basically banned fossil fuels. That is not a business plans, it is hopeful thinking when the Fleet mandates have already effected the industry in the RV segment.

OEMs cannot count on a sudden election swing in deep red states, isn't happening.

Mustang is in big trouble, million L engines recalled at GM. Corvette is basically exotic with volume to match.

At least they still have them; packages and production numbers can be changed with the new regs.

Mustang is on it last breath. We lost the Challenger but gained a 2 door Charger....

GM sells a lost of EVs to be able to have a corvette

Golden age my a**. When those stupid tariffs kick in you won't be smiling. The 80K Charger EV becomes 100 K with a 25% tariff. The golden age is for him and the 1/2% like Elon waiting for more tax cuts .

I won't order a new Mustang because they are less of a vehicle then they were; I would consider a new GT500 if they bring it back. I talked to a few dealerships about the Z06 and ZR1. I didn't mind the 1k down or the prices, but they were talking 5-7 years on the waiting list. The new regs will likely change the circumstances of both your points on the Mustang and Corvette at least in the short term. I retire, next year; I was hoping to order a new toy; we'll see what is available. These policy changes might help with that, which is all I'm saying.

The new Charger; all I have to say is 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

So why you here? There are GM and Ford forums

I love the new Charger, I waiting for the I6HO with the ZF without the Torque converter.

Not a fan of the generic Euro Corvette, I prefer the last one. Also like many Ford designers not a fan of the drop nose pedestrian Mustang, but with its sales number if it survives it a blessin.

Why am I here? Rams - own two, Wranglers - own two, Challengers - want one....looks like a used one if I can find the one I want. I've been watching this forum and Allpar to see the latest news and if things get turned around or not. I'll be replacing some stuff over the next few years; if I can't get the Jeeps, Dodges or Rams I want, I'll go someplace else. I'm pretty frustrated with it; I finally have budget to do some of the things I wanted, but can't get what I want.

I can find you a brand-new Hellcat widebody Challenger.

Just find it odd when people post how they want by a Vette on a thread about EV. Dodge is about to release a quite a lovely new 2 door with 550hp..... but you think it is gross.

Dodge hasn't had a Mustang or Corvette competitor since the Viper was discontinued. If I had extra funds I look at a lightly used GTS personally, but rather have 69 A-body Plymouth.

Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce

In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court on June 28, 2024, overruled the 1984 landmark decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council.

Known as Chevron deference, the 40-year-old decision instructed lower courts to defer to federal agencies when laws passed by Congress were too ambiguous. It had been the basis for upholding thousands of regulations by dozens of federal agencies, but has long been a target of conservatives and business groups who argue that it grants too much power to the executive branch, or what some critics call the administrative state.

Roberts, writing for the court, said federal judges must now "exercise their independent judgment in deciding whether an agency has acted within its statutory authority."

The reversal makes it so executive branch agencies will likely have more difficulty regulating the environment, public health, workplace safety and other issues.

In the decades following the ruling, Chevron has been a bedrock of modern administrative law, requiring judges to defer to agencies’ reasonable interpretations of congressional statutes.

The current Supreme Court, with a 6-3 conservative majority, has been increasingly skeptical of the powers of federal agencies. Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch have questioned the Chevron decision. Ironically, it was Gorsuch’s mother, former EPA Administrator Anne Gorsuch, who made the decision that the Supreme Court upheld in 1984.

The Biden administration argued that overturning Chevron would be destabilizing and could bring a "convulsive shock" to the nation’s legal system.

While the Chevron decision limits federal agencies, CARB is a state agency, but it will still probably get its wings clipped. There is enough pushback against the zero emissions mandates among the electorate to pass federal laws removing some of the ambiguity from the laws which enable both the EPA at the federal level and CARB at the state level to implement their socialist agenda. While our states's governor was busy installing feminine product dispensers in the boy's restrooms, he still had time to pass a blackout bill which tries to force electric utilities in other states to follow Minnesota zero emissions law for the electricity sent over the border. A legal battle such as that, along with the 27 red state's attorney generals combined lawsuit will seal the fate of CARB.

Removing Federalism would require a constitution amendment, would be a disaster as it would basically end the union as founded.

Like the optimize but right to regulate emissions has already been run up to supreme court.

This ruling was excellent has put regulatory laws back to the legislative branch.

One of the reasons for the constitution being written in the first place was to prevent one state from imposing their laws on another state. CARB overstepped their mandate and will be neutralized.
