Is The 426 HEMI-Powered Ram 1500 TR Dead On Arrival?
New V8-Powered Performance Might Not Be Coming...

Our sister site 5thGenRams.com broke the news last year that there were two versions of the upcoming high-performance Ram 1500 Rebel coming out. The first of which (the HELLCAT-powered Rebel TRX) has already been announced by Ram during its 5 Year Plan Presentation at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Capital Markets Day event last June. The second would be a more affordable option calling for a new performance 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI V8, codenamed Banshee for a Rebel TR trim.

As was stated elsewhere, I'm more concerned about how this will impact the Dodge cars. The turbo I-6 sounds like it will have the gumption to deliver enough power and if someone wants more, step up to insanity with the Hellcat. Perhaps the I-6 is developing so well, that the "need" for the Banshee is is question, although I think it would still sell very well based on nostalgia even if the better value was on the Hellcat or I-6.

If there's not going to be a 426 in the L-cars, I wonder if there will be a V8 offered aside from the Hellcat? Maybe a 392 with eTorque?
 
I don't know, I think FCA has the tiger by the tail with their great lineup of V8's, but nothing lasts forever. I'm still skeptical of the potential market for the TR/TRX too. Perhaps the TR was more of a hedge depending on the new lineup of engine performance and/or the success of the TRX, so it was a longshot to begin with..?

1) They are waiting for Ford to annnince the output and efficiency of their new 7.3 /OHV truck V8.

2) The 426 Truck will be made more powerful because Mopar.

3) The Chally will get it first.

4) The Chally 426 will share little if anything with the 426 Truck.

5) But Because people are stupid, the engine HAS to come out in Chally first.

6) That way the Ram gets a “Challenger Hemi” instead of the Challenger getting a “truck” Hemi. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARW TOTALLY DIFFERENT ENGINES.

7) Why? Because people are dumb.

1) Whatever rate Ford might slap on their 7.3 engine, it won’t pass the 500 hp mark.

3) That was my suspicion.
 
With this "never born" engine I am starting to have a doubts about future of a Hellcat.

Just think about packaging concerns. Inline 6 as the biggest engine and relatively big V8 as the biggest engine. Inline 6 is long, Big V8 is both wide and long.

I'm inclined to agree. The new 7.3 is the big question...and what Ford will rate it...and if they bring a version to the F150/Raptor.

I'll be supremely disappointed in Ram if they do not bring the 426 to the 1500. But we can't even get a 6.4, so....

In all seriousness, if Ram puts out a TR that loses a performance comparison to the Raptor, it will invite all manner of negative criticism, even if the TRX obliterates the Raptor. The TR would be the price competitive version. If Ram puts out a weaker TR and a TRX that costs $15,000 to $20,000+ more than a Raptor, that too will invite all manner of criticism.
"Yeah, OK, you beat us. All four of you that drive a truck that cost more than your house."
Followed by an endless stream of emoticons and text based abbreviations.
