FCA US Quality Improvement Outpaces Industry Average for Third Consecutive Year
Jeep® Leads FCA Quality Growth in J.D. Power 2018 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS)
  • Jeep® improves initial quality by more than 10 percent
  • Ram is a top 10 brand for second consecutive year
June 20, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC improved its initial quality at a faster rate than the industry average for the third consecutive year in J.D. Power’s 2018 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS).

Jeep® led all FCA US brands in initial quality improvement with more than a 10 percent growth in the brand’s initial quality score from last year’s study. Ram placed in the top 10 among all brands for the second consecutive year.

“We are pleased to see that the Company’s initial quality improvement has outpaced the industry average for three straight years,” said Scott Garberding, Head of Quality, FCA. “We have continued to improve and we have more work to do. We are highly focused on satisfying our customers by continuing to bring new technologies and products to market, with improved quality and reliability.”

Two FCA US vehicles placed in the top three of their respective segments for initial quality with the Dodge Grand Caravan ranked highest among Minivans and the Chrysler 300 third among Large Cars.

IQS is based on responses from more than 75,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2018 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study asks customers to identify issues with their vehicles’ design, as well as defects.

The IQS study, now in its 32nd year, is based on a 233-question survey conducted between February and May 2018.

It's good to see FCA being recognized for the strides they have made in the quality department. I will say that fit and finish is top notch on my 2016 Ram and I have been very impressed with the fit and finish of every other newer FCA vehicle I have driven.

IMHO quality across the entire industry has improved substantially in the past five years. Unfortunately this overall climb has made FCA look as though they have not been working on improving. It’s nice to finally see some of those results shining through.

I've noticed GM fit and finish to be top notch as well which irks me to say as they're on my short list of manufacturers that I strongly dislike while I feel as though Fords has slipped which I hate to say as they're my second favorite manufacturer behind FCA.

GM material quality is severely lacking, even in something as nice as a Traverse High Country. There are noticeably cheap pieces of plastic scattered around the cabin. And don't get me started on the Trax and Colorado...those have garbage interiors.

Agreed their materials are downright laughable and the interiors are basically trash all the way around. They are put together nicely though but my experience in every GM vehicle I've owned tells me that will be short lived before squeaks/rattles etc start to take over.

My 2012 Cruze had the worst plastic quality I've ever experienced.

Fit & finish on my 2017 300 also very good, so far no rattles or squeeks & really don't expect any. My 2009 300 absolutely quiet & it has 230000 k on it.
MOPAR Always!
