Yesterday at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Dodge rolled out something that turned a lot of heads — the new 2026 Dodge Durango GT with standard HEMI® V8 power. This was our first real chance to see the SUV in person after Dodge CEO Matt McAlear surprised us just last week at Roadkill Nights in Pontiac by confirming that the entire Durango lineup will now come standard with HEMI V8 power for 2026.

Saying the Durango is going upmarket for only a $4,000 increase is a little short sighted in my opinion. In your article, you failed to mention that the current Dodge Durango only has two model years left. You also fail to mention that Stellantis is pretty much waiting the Trump Presidency out so they can make the Durango's replacement, the Stealth, in Canada alongside the Charger. The Durango is a hold me over until the Charger gets a V8 again as well. And lastly, the main customers to the Durango is not poor families, it's law enforcement and people that want a Dodge muscle car or a Grand Cherokee with a V8. Everyone else that buys an SUV for "value" is not buying the Durango because it's "too old" and a "gas guzzler" (even with the V6). The Dodge brand has become a sporty niche brand, don't forget that. If people want the kind of SUV you speak of, well the refreshed 2026 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L should appeal to them better. In fact, a 2026 Durango GT with Tow N Go is probably cheaper than a 2025 Durango GT that is fully loaded with a bunch of useless junk that jacks the price up to $60,000, for a slow V6 SUV with similar real world fuel economy. Let that sink in, cause that family with the Tow N Go can now tow and haul more on family vacation...
