In 1965, the Head of Chrysler Corporation Racing Program, Ronney Household was boycotting NASCAR after the sanctioning body banned the 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch)”RACE” HEMI V8 from race competition. The Chrysler Racing Program then moved money to sponsor drag racers and led to two special cars being built exclusively for its factory drag racing program that year.

From my memory file of life in the 60s, I am pretty sure the Sox and Martin Car is a knockoff or tribute car. First, wrong injectors. Ronnie ran a four speed and the manual transmission cars ran the short injector stacks and the automatic cars the long stacks you see on this car. This is also a hardtop, the factory cars in 1965, were all two door sedans. Telling is the wheel base and tire size, all not consistent with the Sox and Martin cars. The value of this car should reflect its authenticity.
The Lee Smith car though, looks to be the real thing and in my opinion, more valuable. I have fond memories of seeing this car at the Super Stock Nationals on Long Island when all the “Southern” teams first ventured to the North in large numbers to prove their credentials. The local teams like Joe Jill’s Speedwin Plymouth, we’re competitive, but the Mopars from the South totally dominated the event. That event for me was like a kid in a candy factory, I was in Mopar Heaven. Clear as day in this old mind.
