Alfa Romeo Tonale mule caught on the road

Tonale should be the first of the five new Alfa Romeo models over the next 5 years. But unfortuntely none of them is a model designed for US market and all could be FWD based. Let's say that even if Alfa should get a lots of models none of them will be at Giulia's or Stelvio's level. Only one could be close to them and it depends on platform choice, STLA Medium or STLA Large. But even it will not have a bodywork which is popular in US.

Next gen Giulia and Stelvio or E-segment models could only come at the later date unless they change something.

Tonale has a small chance of arriving in the US, but a lot depends on how it can be differentiated from Hornet. Not a lot can be done regarding power outputs and running weight (unless Hornet ends up bigger than Tonale), but I think there's scope to differentiate the driving experience with a shorter steering rack, cornering-focused suspension tuning, better brakes on the Alfa, and fit a more upmarket interior.

If they want to take advantage of the presence in the US market then they'll release the Tonale in the US, and a Giulietta successor if they ever launch one. Anything below that won't find success in the US.
Maybe when Maserati replaces the Levante they might consider making an Alfa brother for it, but I have my doubts. It's just something I would like to see.

If you take a look at North American market then it's easy to understand that E segment models are equally if not more important than D segment models. Yet there is no whisper about future of Alfa in E segment.

Weird I must say.

C segment models, premium C segment, are making far lesser numbers than D segment in US.

Maserati Levante?
VAG is clever in that regard. Their E segment SUVs came out in quick succession. But it seems that Maserati's fate is in ex FCA hands while French got rule over Alfa Romeo which BTW is not in line with the original pre merger agreement although they've kept one part of it. All premium brands all governed from Turin.

You think they're planning 5 Alfas for B-C segments? o_O I guess half of that are just mind games.

I couldn't care less where Imparato comes from. What matters is his long-term passion for the brand. And his track record. Plus management, design and main production from Italy.

Not all 5 are B or C segments. That's for sure.

We know what are the first two. Third is Giulietta.

But what are 4th and 5th?

But as I said none of them is a model which can be popular in US. For premium segment in US it's all about D and E segment, all about sedans and boxy looking SUVs. For example models like X4 and X6 from BMW are not particularly interesting for US public.

5th model is addition to Giulia and Stelvio, additional model. I can say that.

Manley froze the plans for Alfas bigger than the Giulia and Stelvio. It seems that the STellantis management didn't thaw those plans.
IMO, that's the wrong move if they really wish to establish Alfa in the US. The question is: do they? Or will they remove Alfa and bet everything on Maserati instead?

Maserati and Alfa are not playing at the same field. Premium Vs luxury carmaker or if you want an example then Audi Vs Porsche is the one.

And Audi gets plenty of stuff from Porsche. Just look at the e-tron versus Taycan. I want the same for Alfa.
Screw Lancia and DS.

We absolutely agree on Lancia and DS.

It seems that Stellantis (read: PSA) has the same issue as FGA in the past. They think too much about domestic market and they think that what goes well at domestic market could be successful globally. In case of FGA it was Europe.

It seems that I can say what are the new models:
  1. Tonale on Small Wide v2.0
  2. B-SUV on CMP v2
  3. Giulietta on STLA Medium
  4. So called Giulia crossover on STLA Large or maybe even it on STLA Medium, think about Porsche Cross Turismo
  5. Sports car, Coupe or Cabrio or both, on STLA Medium (I mean WTF???)
And we have our new model list till the end of 2025 or 2026.

FCA management wished E-segment SUV and D or E-segment liftback/fastback.

This Imparato guy....I don't trust him, for the time being at least. How can someone even think to waste money on something like a new Duetto, FWD even when NA is desperate for an E SUV and something on the likes of 8 Series and 8 Series Grand Coupe ?
Giulia X is a waste of money too. Why doing something like that on D when market demands it on E/F ? If Stellantis was really interested in developing Alfa the right way, it would bust its ass off to develop electric Giulia/Stelvio on a shorter wheelbase version of Maser.'s Giorgio. I mean, have you seen Tesla numbers, even in Europe ? Why is BMW able to understand such a thing (i4...) and Stellantis isn't ?
Maybe because the sad truth is that Tavares is only interested in save money ? 5 mld to be more precise and, as you well know, every bloody year....and keeping same exFCA CAPEX. That's crazy.
