Alfa Romeo officially unveiled its all-new 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale C-SUV earlier today, and the compact SUV shows great promise from the Italian marque. The brand calls the unveiling “La Metamorfosi” or metamorphosis of the brand’s direction with a new era of luxury, electrification, and connectivity while maintaining that signature Alfa Romeo race-inspired DNA.

Sales of Alfa Romeo and Maserati seem to be brisk in certain geographic and demographic areas where Italian brands are more sought, known and supported by enough dealerships to gain an acceptable market share. I am always surprised at monthly AR sales figures because in my area, they are quite popular. I don’t know if the new Tonale will change AR fortunes in the less serviced and available areas since the product itself is not the sole issue and sales may be disappointing. My quick take, as a Alfa Romeo rooter on the Tonale, great exterior design, cutting edge technology, but a confusing, unattractive interior, in photos anyway. I do hope Dodge does a better job of brand specific design execution on the Hornet spin-off, since the Tonale may have missed on North America tastes a bit and being sold as a Dodge with its brand network and brand recognition will bring profits to this shared platform and architecture that Alfa Romeo alone will not accomplish. Based on what the Tonale offers, the Hornet, with a Dodge executed interior and please, please, please a Dodge executed dash, might be a smash hit. The Tonale, not so much I am sorry to say.

I am inclined to agree that the Tonale in the US will be niche. It will do much better in Europe though. I think the Dodge Hornet will be a sales success if properly executed as you mention.
