DISCONTINUED: Jeep® Renegade 4xe's Missed Impact in North America

The automotive industry’s rapid shift toward electrification makes the absence of the Jeep® Renegade 4xe in the North American market a significant missed opportunity for both the brand and consumers, especially given the Renegade’s North American discontinuation in 2024. This compact SUV promised affordability and well-equipped features for those desiring a blend of urban convenience … (read full article...)

Can it not be made in the same capacity as the Compass in Mexico or is that full up?

The recent shake up in Jeep leadership is telling. Jeep, without question, is Stellantis’ solid gold. It can lead the whole company to greater levels globally. But the brand is so disorganized around its model mixes, it’s manufacturing facilities and it’s unrealistic and flawed electrification timetables and plans that it is a mess. An embarrassing mess.
No Renegade, no Cherokee, two good selling models that were not replaced on time as the world awaits the Wagoneer S and Recon, both which, if not given an ICE option, may be doomed to failure right out of the box.
Indeed Jeep has a mess on their hands and Renegade is just a hint at how bad things are. Then there is Chrysler, Dodge and Ram. Oh my !!!

Not knowing anything about a pending discontinuation, I purchased one for my wide and she loves it. The 1.3 is amazingly strong, a slight turbo lag, but FUN to drive. We've already been to the mountains and other places in it.
Get this, it is the most basic of basic models. Not even a luggage rack. But it is what my wife wanted. As long as she is happy, I am happy.
I'm 6'4" and fit inside with more ease than a Renegade!
Sad to see it go.

Mefi plant is being converted to the PSA based STLA Mid.... that is where the Renegade for USA come from, India made ones are Right-handed, Brazil and USA have no trade root or favorable trade relationship, GAC relationship has been dissolved. So, there is plenty of spare tool sets but they would have to be moved. Avenger a true B size has replaced in Europe..... it's quit a quandary.

Yea, too many moving parts. I know I’m confused, not surprising though.

The next Compass will be based on the STLA medium platform. According to the Mopar Insiders Article dated 11/06/23 on the Unifor agreement, a new generation Jeep Compass is to be built in Brampton, Ontario. The dimensions and styling of this new model remains a mystery to many of us. I expect such a vehicle to be offered with both battery electric and PHEV power trains as is the choice with the Jeep Avenger. The Compass might not use the same engines and motors. I would expect Stellantis will source the Compass power train units from North America.

That said, many people gave a wholehearted positive response to the Patriot ENVI range extended EV concept back in 2009. This plugin Patriot was a simple basic design. The ENVI concepts were all smoke and mirrors to win either a suitor or a bailout and instead Fiat was the winning dumpster diver. FCA never tapped into the North American market for hybrid compact crossovers. Ford did, but the Escort since morphed into a sleeker more sophisticated product. Ford's Bronco Sport takes on the old Escort's rustic persona, but has does so without a hybrid option up to this point. Toyota managed to sell more of the larger RAV4 hybrids per year than the entire Cherokee lineup Jeep sold in the last four years of that model. Toyota has since introduced a hybrid option for their Corolla Cross, but people don't like the months long waiting list for Toyota Hybrids.

North America received the front drive based 4Xe power train in the Dodge Hornet and AR Tonale, neither of these models are what I would call rustic. The Jeep Recon says hobby farm, not the rural charm and will be priced accordingly.

Melfi - getting (5) STLA Medium vehicles - one being the new Compass for Europe, although Brazil produces their own Renegade for Latin America (including Mexico), their Compass 4xe comes from Melfi. Our Compass comes from Toluca and our Renegade came from Melfi.

Brampton - will produce the next-gen Compass there

Toluca - getting three all-new Jeep vehicles on STLA Large - Recon (EJ), Wagoneer S (KX), and Cherokee (KM)

I just got a Limited 4x4 for my wife, it's been a great vehicle. I am 6'1 and fit better in it than the Compass. Amazing vehicle to see out of. I got her the removable roof panel one, so she's excited about summer. Yeah the 1.3-liter is sluggish, but it's better than the 2.4-liter. I would have loved to see a 2.0-liter in this thing. Matter of fact someone on YouTube is putting together a HEMI one.

So, I am correct that there is no place to run it for NA, unless a Wrangler styled and sized B+ is developed just for NA, unless specific capacity is available somewhere that susw vehicle, or like you infer Toluca could accommodate both STLA Large and SUSW vehicle.

Running a STLA Medium in Brampton is interesting. SO that are NOT going to fix that narrow carrier and clearance issues there!!!

There are rumors that the next-gen Renegade will grow a bit in size to keep it under the Compass, but a bit bigger than the new Avenger in Europe. Rumors are that it will be built in Spain.

OF course, I am ignoring the entire PSA capacity in the EU....

I wonder about the Dongfend.... I can't see if the relationship extended beyond 2021 merger. Still looking for some way to salvage all those lose tool sets. A new "Renegade" would still mean no where for the current Renegade to continue to be offered in NA. I think there would still be room as the Avenger is very much modern Jeep take, not classic Jeep take like the Renegade. I really wish they would come out with a Jimny competitor.

Bill, I fully agree with you, what a mess indeed!

What do you agree with him on?.... The capacity shift is always happening, always is, that Renegade got lost in shuffle is a bit sad, but it likely the lowest margin vehicle in the lineup world wide. We all know STLA Large and STLA medium can accommodate both BEV and ICE/Hybrid, while our much loved SUSW cannot.

since the MK models there seems to be no clear delineation in the customer base who favor upright XJ/Wrangler style influence and those who favor the JGC sleek massaged look. Near as I can tell it dang near 50/50

The snotty goes both ways. There people who will Duck a Solid Axle jeep but not JGC, or even do the Jeep Wave. Then JGC that will act some way saying old fashion ugly Wranglers fans. I don't buy into either but it is for sure there.
