Philosophically I believe there Is a need for unions to protect contractural rights and bargain collectively with management. Politically I do not believe in biased political action committees which support candidates that can create quid pro quo relationships that foster corruption or strikes that unfairly cripple the economy. Now it’s time to earn those raises and keep things clean.
The UAW in this round really came through for Stellantis members, rejection would have been shocking. In particular the Belvedere settlement, if not already predetermined behind closed doors early on, was a victory for all American workers. Frankly, it’s a game changer.
Now it’s time to bring harmony and fairness to bare so the industry can stabilize its plans going forward including bringing jobs back to America and that will only happen if union members keep their goals and objectives realistic and to include competitive wages and build quality at or better than import builders. Critical.
Fundamental Union principles have merit, political pandering does not and this clear victory should not go to members heads or tarnish their reputations.
