Without argument I am confident that the Hurricane family of engines will outperform the Pentastar 6, but I love that e-torque system as a method to increase power, eliminate accessory drag, and increase fuel mileage. I had hoped some derivative of this system would be adopted for the straight six, but I guess it is not in the works. I won’t go all electric, so I must opt for the Hurricane before it is taken off the market. Hope that’s years and years away, but I want to replace my current Jeep before then. My opinion is that the all electric agenda will be abandoned before anyone considers killing off the new 6s.

Availability = Obsolescence.

There will be a mild hybrid version of the next generation ZF 8-speed which will have the electric drive motor in the transmission. This setup is similar to the high voltage PHEV system used in the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4Xe models, but the mild hybrid system has 48V and won't be a plugin. The BSG will continue as part of these hybrid systems because it enables smooth transitions from electric to combustion modes.
