Autoblog.com recently sat down with Ram CEO, Mike Koval Jr. at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show, where the Ram boss discussed some interesting information about the future plans of the brand.

While Ram has big plans for its upcoming Ram 1500 Battery-Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Range Electric Paradigm Breaker (REPB) pickups, he did drop some hints about the possibility of a smaller offering as well as a timeline of when we could be seeing the 2023 Ram Heavy Duty lineup.

This is beyond Frustrating, waiting since 2012 for a NEW DAKOTA Mid Size Pickup! I have Leased 2 Chevy Colorados and really like them.
Come on already and don't give us a unibody lifestyle City boy Pickup either..

Ram is SOOOOO far behind the curve!! No small truck, no Mid-size truck and no Full size SUV. Seems we only build one size pick up, no less 2 versions, an old dated one and a new one. If it wasn't for the old Classic, who knows where Ram would be in the truck race. Probably not fighting for second!!! Time to get your stuff together and get back in the game.

Saw this the two weeks ago. Short wheelbase, Ram styling, fuel filler for door at the back of the bed. We've all been leaning towards Dakota prototype.

That's an old Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer test mule.

Wow. Can't believe they are still just talking about this, other manufacturers are on second generation of midsize trucks and bringing in compact trucks.

What the heck are they waiting for.

I have been buying Dodge trucks for years and this year decided to just buy a used 2019 new style as the 2023 have no real changes.

It was much better when Ram was under the Dodge name plate more innovations and performance models were made available, not to many want or can aford a silly TRX style truck Wheres the street version.

And just a not the styling of any of the trucks pictured in this article are just strange looking, what's with all the swooping up as you move further back along the truck lines

Nope,
Ram has more options today than in 2009
TRX is the very example of more variety than 2009. Finally, “afford” with the DT RAM all FCA/Stellantis did was bring lineup in-line with the F-150 pricing.

Finally a Midsize Truck can’t be a drag/dilutive in the Company’s pricing in the United States.

I think Ram should shoot for something inbetween The Maverick and mid size pickups. I'm find with unibody. My XJ Cherokee's did just fine. Make a small Ram that is rear wheel drive but the length of the Maverick and I'm good. All the mid size have gotten a bit too long to easily park in the garage. Make it no more tha 204 inches long. Mini bed is perfect for a small pickup. You're not trying to compete with full size capacity. I have a small utility trailer for when the mini bed wouldn't be enough. Why daily drive more length than I need 99% of the time?

That’s why I believe they going for Ridgeline, which is actual pretty nice package but with flaws (FWD, design, feel). Stellantis can put out a better package, plus buyers are use to going to “Legacy Michigan brands” -Dealer Network for pickups.
I also suspect it will be price within $2,000 of the outgoing RAM DS Classic crew cab.

I'm on the waiting list to be put on another waiting list for purchasing a Ford Maverick. A new mid-size Ram might possibly be available before I even get to the head of the line for a Maverick. There is too much smoke and mirrors going on with the Blue Oval brand for my liking. Only Ford could come up with 3D vaporware.

Now as far as a Ram mid-size goes, I would keep an eye on what Stellantis does with the Toluca, MX facility. If they open up room for new product a mid-size pickup would be a good fit.

STLA would work for a Lifestyle Truck better than Honda for sure. They already have some smaller lifestyle Truck in the Maverick range that just need to be offered here.

That Ram 1000 at the top of the page would be perfect for my needs. Others might need more truck, but I don't. My Grand Caravan did a better job of being a truck than my half-ton Dodge pickup did back in the day.
