Pricing For 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Lineup Will Get A Significant Hike!

Both Two- And Three-Row Models Will Get Price Increases...

It was nearly 30 years ago, the Jeep® Grand Cherokee began its legacy as the most-awarded SUV in history. After four groundbreaking generations, the newest iteration kicked off with the first-ever three-row variant called the Grand Cherokee L (WL75). The introduction of a three-row model answered a lot of Grand Cherokee enthusiasts calls for a larger model offering more passenger room. But, it wasn't until September 29th that we finally got to see the two-row Grand Cherokee (WL74) offering that ultimately replaces the previous (WK2) generation.

WOW! Does anyone have the comp's between the Grand Cherokee L and the Dodge Durango? The price jump for the two row is quite steep! I wonder how the L compares to the Explorer and the rest?

As soon as I sat in the new Grand Cherokee I knew that the level of finish, the overall improvement to a new refined level would come at a price. There is no comparison with my old Grand Cherokee and personally, this is the level this Jeep should be at and most buyers will fork over the cash willingly. BUT, not everyone will or can and that brings into focus one of my pet discussion points, where does Jeep go with Cherokee?
The Cherokee needs to bridge the gap left by the old Grand Cherokee in size, capability, appointments and price, everything must be re-defined from the now bit bigger Compass to a bit smaller and more affordable Grand Cherokee.
Proposed solution- Refine the last generation GC platform, with an entry level model mor close to the current Cherokee pricing and then go upscale from there to a Summit model that rivals the interior and appointments of the Grand Cherokee mid point models at a lower price. We now have a larger, more capable, more modern and upscale Cherokee built on the same former assembly line that better fits the segment. Filling that gap seems a great solution.
It is my position that the current Cherokee will become too starkly less appealing when seen along side the GC and too many past GC customers will be priced out and sized out of the Jeep brand. Best of all this can all be accomplished at the cost of a major update of a current product. I must also note that the Cherokee has little global viability now and even less in the future so this solution makes even more sense. The personal note here is this would be the Jeep I’d wish for given the choice. Jeep, fill the gap.

lol no thanks, the decently equipped ones are at least $55k.

Guess I’ll see what the RWD-based Mazda CX-70 has to offer.

just get one off lease in 2 years.... with limited supply prices go up.... it basic economics ..... Hold your britches folks ... not to be political but the supply chain is close to collapsing while by Sundown leadership is in bed....(at some point it not pollical it just our reality. Inflation is going to Kill us) If they want to pull out the National guard it should be unload ships and drive trucks.

BB you have good points. I recall a few years ago when General Motors transitioned and upgraded the Corvette to a Euro-Competitor and many Vette owners felt abandon. In retrospect at the time it was a hard pill to swallow but many years later we see that Corvette and their buyers survived! Surely there are other similar upscale models that survived!

Let’s not use any last-gen platforms when there are new ones available.

You are spot on. I see it daily in my job in the heavy equipment industry. And no one really understands what is under way with, dare I say it, fossil fuels. Prices are about to go off the charts. Already are actually. Hold on to your wallets. About to get interesting.

How's that KM coming? :D

I can't imagine CDN$ prices

The opportunity to use a new platform from corporate sources, refine, update a shortened last generation GC platform or sticking with what is currently a flawed platform in capibility is the discussion point. Sure, a new platform may be better, but how long would that take and Cherokee falls deeper into a less desirable place. The old platform is just too close to Compass and Renegade and too far from GC to be competitive. That leaves the last generation GC platform. With a major update, the new ZF multi purpose transmission coming on line and perhaps a bit shorter wheelbase you have a very fine two row SUV, hybrid capable and more in line with what Jeep owners like me want in a mid size SUV. I see this as a faster, cheaper solution to a problem. Just a thought on an idea for Jeep that just needs answering.

Not cheaper solution at all, because it takes plant space from Grand Cherokee which goes for $50-$60 grand.

Figure out what to do regarding the extra RAM plant then figure out Cherokee.

You all still using the term platform.... do you also where Parachute pants and shop at chess king. A platform is build point, it got used to describe architecture in a age where through cost saving they would use the same lower structure and then plop different bodies on top. Cheap but meant all compromises, Gale and Lutz changed that a bit started moving build point to the application. Pay attention now they are using the word architecture. This is because the computational power is to the point you don't just slap different bodies of different sizes on a common build point and end up with something crappy. Unless you PSA and basically all you vehicles have the same dynamic goal. Jeep and Alfa do not have the same dynamic goals as a Opel. You can't just slap Jeep on it. The cost of developing components and platforms form a architecture has evaporated because of the many forms of computational optimizations... The whole ignorance on how vehicles are developed today is how you get DUMB comments like Giorgio was a waste of money, when it is the seedling feeding all rear architecture vehicles moving forward. It becomes iterative each new vehicle adds to the development evolution of a architecture and vehicle become the best at there mission.

And news flash the WK2 is freaken expensive Architecture while being OLD OLD OLD.... You would end up with a Cherokee the price of a Grand and unless you move the build points and refit the carriers (why would you do that when you could use new architecture) it would end up being the same size. While you could sell GC classics it would be just as expensive to make as the new models.

Let them develop the KM and lets see what it is. My hope is it more Stelvio sized and configured. If you want to use a PLATFORM use the that one.

Wasn't KM said to share a shortened version of WL platform, which has some Giorgio aspect in it?

that is the rumor... I was pessimistic as it was slated for the same capacity, although it wasn't out of the question to turn the engine on the existing build points. It also not out of the question that you grow the new vehicle using the same build points but with Giorgio architecture. But since it is moving anything is possible. Patriot really has grown into the Cherokee (even though they are vastly different on the road and trail, with the Grand moving up.... it leaves plenty of room for the Cherokee to move up market.

I’m really expecting KM to be an evolution of small-wide.

But Giorgio is RWD based and Small-wide or Compact Wide is FWD based.
Unless they can rotate the engine within the dimensions of Small-wide or Compact Wide.

They had to start somewhere.
