Semiconductor Shortages Cause Huge Losses For The Automaker...

Stellantis U.S. released its total sales for the third quarter of 2021 this past Friday, with somewhat disappointing results. The ongoing semiconductor shortage has caused a major rift in the automotive industry this summer with continuous production shutdowns and product launch delays. A total of 410,917 vehicles were sold during the quarter, with 15% of that total being sold to fleets. When compared to the same time last year, the company sold 507,351 vehicles during the same time, resulting in a loss of 19%.

“While the various supply chain issues facing our industry continue to impact available inventory, we know the demand for our vehicles is still there,” said U.S. Head of Sales Jeff Kommor. “Calendar year-to-date, total sales improved 3% versus this time last year.”

So how ugly are the numbers for the rest of the Auto industry? Can’t be much better than Stellantis.

Q3 / YTD
GM -33 / flat
Ford -24.7 / -7

So not terrible by big 3 comparison, if my quick search is accurate. I think Toyota is doing the best out there Q3+1.4 / YTD+27.9. GM may lose its 90year streak of selling the most in US.

Wrangler, gladiator, grand cherokee, all of ram brand, 300, all of current dodge brand, guilia, and stelvio all positive year to date. But better comparison would be vs 2019.

Curious why GCL doesnt get it's own row? Too bad if it is baked into GC sales.
