Indian Version Of New Commander Will Debut In April...​

Just a few days ago, Jeep® Brazil gave us our first peek at its all-new three-row Commander (H1) D-segment SUV. While the new seven-passenger SUV is based on the Compass, it is aimed at giving the brand a true family hauler where vehicles like the three-row Grand Cherokee L might simply be out of reach for many buyers. While it is unlikely that the North American market will be able to obtain one of these new SUVs, Jeep has big plans for the new Commander on a global scale.

While this beauty is an exciting Jeep for the global market, this three row is undeniably a potential salvation entry level crossover SUV for Chrysler. Come on guys, with a cleverly restyled spin-off effort, Chrysler goes from dying ember to a spark of life brand With Lincoln. Cadillac and even Buick bristling with SUV offerings, Chrysler languishes with none. This is beyond neglect, it is lunacy, corporate malfeasance With computer imagery and some engineering know how we could have this spin off in showrooms in months. North American adjustment mules could have running prototypes in this body on the road in short time, but amazingly Chrysler languishes along. This frustrates, baffles and angers me. What gives? We need a spark and even to the most casual observer, this new Jeep has match to kindling qualities, clearly. I’m a guy who wants answers and Chrysler loyalists deserve a response and a spark of hope explanation here.

Jeep needs to bring that to the U.S to compete with Subaru. Also need a need a Vehicle between the Grand Cherokee L and the Wagoneer. The L is still a little to small and the Wagoneer cost is to high.

What gives is that it wouldn't pay for the implementation as a Chrysler. All these things you say are simple are not, they are expensive, not to mention the certification needed. And are you talking about importing it from Brazil? Nope. India... Well maybe but not really a big deal but uncommon. So you want to do a entire plant implementation. Kia style shipped in a box? Or we going tool completely up? Hint the tooling on the big parts is 28 weeks to T1.

the math is easy.... the explore a market segment, they consider which Brand will garner the most margin, If it a SUV or CUV you can bet that Jeep, if they want to go broad market in EU and Brazil maybe Fiat.

Chrysler loyalists deserve nothing, the company is not run as charity. You want Chrysler to survive, buy a 300... option up and at the same transaction price as a Charger, Buy a Top of the Line Pacifica.... show the management that the brand is viable, because it is holding on by a string. As soon a the Passport is announced pre-order it, go on social network encouraging others. If one want Chrysler to survive BUY ONE.

Complaining every time a model is announced anywhere in the work on every thread ...... will do NOTHING.

This is just the Commander that has already be discussed that has 2 problems in NA. One it is too soft for Jeep loyalist because of it breakover. Two the rear passenger space in 2nd and 3rd rows are unsatisfactory for us fatties.

The only Commander that was intended for NA was the one in China ..... Apparently that couldn't pay itself back because in been shelved for like 4 years.

Holding on by a string because, like much of old FCA, it's been STARVED. That's not a "Chrysler loyalist" problem. That's a decades-running corporate destruction of customer good will.

Jeep took the crown when the most profitable automotive market in the world pivoted to majority SUV sales. The distance between today’s world and the old world grows farther everyday - we’re not going go to backwards.

Chrysler will get some future products, but the majority of the investment will always go to Jeep - Jeep is what people are willing to pay a premium for, and this is a business.

Indeed these very general product strategies and proposals are highly optimistic and highly speculative, but none the less, corporate has made a ten year commitment to all its brand’s, including Chrysler, and in spite of criticism, the speculative loyalists deserve some insight into the game plan. This false argument about Chrysler being a volume brand demonstrates a lack of understanding of the history of the brand. It’s affordable luxury status and unique character in a narrow market which never aimed at volume, but like Buick, DeSoto, Oldsmobile , Cadillac and Lincoln, focused on a profitable niche status that Chrysler did successfully for decades and still might going forward. If you look at the Stellantis portfolio of brands it is inclusive of many niche brands and there can be a place in that corporate spectrum for each, if there is clarity, support and effort at their backs. Tedious and boring is a shared experience by those who make these efforts, but not at the invigorating commitment to that effort. Tediousness sets in at the repeated arguments based on narrow and defeatist thinking that will not serve anyone, let alone those who deserve some clarity and foresight. We will soldier on, boring or not be warned, until those shinny new Chrysler’s start rolling off the assembly line. Indeed there will be enough customers,old and new, queuing up at dealerships if it’s done right and is true to Chrysler heritage of affordable luxury.

I agree Bill, this should be a Chrysler SUV in North America. Chrysler needs an SUV in their line up (along with more vehicles). This is perfect seeing Jeep N.A. doesn’t have this to directly compete with.

Guys this is stretch Compass, no one interested in a Chrysler is going to Squeeze in the 3rd row. Pure Fantasy. There is a Commander that works as Chrysler, the Chinese model, apparently that did cost justify.

Are the Chrysler fans willing to buy a Chinese built car like Buick buyers. My guess is No. But if they and I are wrong you should drop management a letter.

Tipo is a better fit and they haven’t done that one either.

Your repeat of the same stuff flys in the face of the facts of Stellantis.

The structure of Stellantis prevents outsiders from “holding the company’s feet to the fire endeavor with merit” with EXOR (John Elkann)and Peugeot Family having nearly 40% voting power once the French Government sells its stake.

@TripleT and I both have explain the relationship of Margin/Segment direction/Pricing/Factory usage to you in multiple occasions . Mopar has never been more profitable as it currently is, so the Chrysler brand needs to be in a brand new role that’s different from the past.

Nostalgia or “heritage “ of a badge must not get in the way of Stellantis long-term profitability and Stellantis main brand in the U.S. :Jeep.

I just want to mention that indeed, this might have 7-seats, but US citizens are a bit larger than the rest of the world, so I don't believe you would be able to fit 7 full sized americans in this car...
The american version of this SUV is the same as the European one: it's the Compass. And if the MCA refresh for the Compass in North America didn't even result in more engine options I have serious doubts that the decision makers would ever consider bringing this to the US as a Chrysler. It's quite clear what you guys will get in the US for the next few years: Jeeps and Rams. They might throw you guys a bone with a new Challenger and Charger, who knows. And you will get the Dodge Hornet because they wanted more production in the same factory as the Tonale.
Consider yourselves lucky to get that one, because FCA management wouldn't have launched that one.

It sucks, I know. I've been complaining about the same for years happening to Fiat in Europe, and I get really envious of the dynamism of Fiat in South America.

This one can have price advantage and I can see it as a Chrysler in US. Offer it primarily as a 2 row with 3 row as an option.

Offer 1.5 P2 MHEV with around 200 HP and optional 1.3 PHEV with 240 HP. Why not?

Imported from India? Its not paying for capacity in NA. You would have to build new bumper cores and LHD components in India.
 
Maybe it could be built in Toluca next to the Compass? Or in Brasil? But I don't know if there's tariffs from Brasil to the US.
