Stellantis’ EV Day 2021 Will Show The Company’s Electrified Future!

Stellantis’ EV Day 2021 Will Show The Company’s Electrified Future!

Here Is What We Expect To Find Out This Coming Week...

Earlier this past week, Stellantis N.V. announced that it would be holding a press conference on Thursday, July 8th, to discuss the future of the company’s brands and the direction it plans to take in the form of electric vehicles (EVs). Entitled “EV Day 2021“, the event should give the public their first look at the Stellantis organization and its future since coming together from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Peugeot S.A. (PSA) identities.

From my perspective the rush to electric “ONLY” vehicles comes with some serious risks, some cited in the article. Brands not in this fast tracked situation should be better off with a slower transition or no transition at all in some instances. Arguments based in facts where infrastructure, resource scarcities and consumer resistance necessitate caution and a different path call out for clear thinking. There needs to be different strokes for different folks...er...brands. As a hedge against a blind rush to oblivion in the name of unproven green thinking, I’m hanging on to my HEMI Challenger. No rush here.

Interesting guess /choices! @redriderbob , @Jared B .
My guess is Maserati goes all EV as well.
Also I’m going to guess they will announce RAM PHEV got canceled by omitting it from the presentation. RAM EV is must to make Wall Street believe Stellantis is a modern Company and NOT “blockbuster of Vehicles”.
@TripleT and @Bili have mention the axing of PHEV project, I believe that’s one of them( RAM PHEV).

Canceling a Ram PHEV when many customers are demanding that type of vehicle would be foolish. The ZF system is already slated for the rear drive based Jeeps. One advantage of the ZF hybrid technology is it allows 48V mild hybrid, high voltage plugin hybrid, and pure battery electric powertrain options on the same vehicle. The same technology is also transferable to the Powerline HD eight speed truck transmission, which is rumored for the Ram HD trucks.

Cummins offers a battery electric powertrain for transit busses. The company states the system may be adapted for use in medium duty trucks. A Ram Cummins 5500 EV would certainly shake up the fleet market. I'm not saying that will happen, but it would be spectacular.

The suits running the Stellantis show had better worry more about selling vehicles to the real customers and less about impressing the elites on Wall Street. The media and Wall street totally ignored the Ram PHEV program from the last decade. That project was as significant as the Chrysler turbine program of the 1960s.

I would have no problem with a Ram PHEV, but not an EV. I am not going to wait hours to recharge my battery with a life-on-the-go lifestyle as I have.

I think that Carlos doesn't care about Wall Street. As I said they (French/PSA) look at the whole or global car market through French eyes. What's good in France is good for the whole world. That's foolish way of thinking.

And they are obsessed with cost cutting. Cut ties with suppliers, produce all in house and so on. So tech must be as cheap as possible. Performance is not important.
Of course PSA side of the group use word "performance" but it's meaning is very different or even the opposite than for FCA side.

Public presentations are already available like electrification tech, supply chain and timing for PHEV shelving which is by 2029 with 2030 being the year of BEV as the only choice for high voltage electrification tech.

Do I need to say that only technologies of any kind mentioned on presentations are always from PSA side of the group?

I would like to say some additional things. @AlexB may not agree with me.
At the time when Sergio was still alive he said that the company must increase CAPEX spending but in absolute terms and in percentage of total turnover. I agree with this. This is the only way for progress.

I was curious when the Cherokee (KM) was being replaced and hopefully it is this year or early 2022. Isn't it classified as a compact? I would assume it'll stay in that category, but move up in length to about 185" or so.

If the Cherokee moves up, do you think the 2022 two row Grand Cherokee will also increase in size?

They are already in two different classes. Even at 185" the Cherokee would still fall under the compact category as the Grand Cherokee currently sits at 195". I do expect the Grand Cherokee to be slightly wider and longer.

Meanwhile in California, after the Mandates are now asking people not to Charge their EVs...... Without a significant investment in Infrastructure. including ON DEMAND production .... the Electric future of the Automobile in USA is of unpowered vehicle sitting in the driveway.

Go ahead @Bili !
But I will stated the Company doesn’t go through the trouble & expense of maintaining 3 different stock listings if it didn’t care for Wall Street.

They pays fees to the U.S. Government (SEC) and the NYSE. The other thing is PSA’s 2020 results was reaudited to meet U.S. financial standards, and telling investors don’t rely on historical PSA’s results (they don’t meet U.S. standards).

The only thing since Ford had their own EV Day, Ford’s valuation increased soo much it is nearly the same (market cap)as Stellantis. RAM EV is highly important.

Ram Commercial needs battery electric vehicles. Fleet and commercial customers are asking for alternative power trains. If 10% of commercial buyers need a battery electric truck, not offering one means forfeiting a slice of the market. Conversely, going "all in" on BEVs means forfeiting 90% of the market.

What makes the ZF technology so attractive is that it allows a range of electrification choices. Magna's e-axle is also tailored to minimizing modifications from conventional ICE based trucks. What these companies recognize is that there is no "one drive fits all" solution. Stop and go last mile delivery and the "life-on-the-go lifestyle" have very different power train requirements.

The one thing Stellantis does get right is simply building the larger LCVs as glider kits to have alternative power trains installed elsewhere. When I first learned of this I thought it was just the executives being lazy. In realty, the percentage of BEV vans sold is tiny, so such a strategy makes sense. We'll find out in one week whether Stellantis will do this for the Ram ProMaster as well.

Between the totalitarian impulses of the green politicians and the Jacobins which now run Stellantis, I fear for the future of Auburn Hills and its legacy.

I have to disagree - this obsession with EVs and the crazy announcements from Fiat that are completely unrealistic about EV adoption - he should be reprimanding those executives for stupid statements like that. But the executive and Carlos both know that words about EVs move the stock price.

yep, total insanity

What does Fiat have with BEV adoption?

I was referring to how silly it is to say that Fiat will be all EV by 2030. People in South America who buy Fiat are not be able to afford the EV premium.

Ah yes. Stellantis, not FCA.

BTW, Fiat CEO, Francois, he came to Fiat from PSA, from Citroen brand. 😆
