It’s been almost 30 years since the Jeep® brand launched the Grand Cherokee nameplate. Since then, the grand Cherokee has become the most-awarded SUV nameplate ever and has sold more than 7 million units around the globe. As one of the former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) most important vehicles, the newly merged Stellantis is being careful about the launch of its fifth-generation of large SUVs.

Ibid my comment on the Melfi plant, we are clearly witnessing a transformational change at Stellantis, certainly meshing exeisting separate heritage projects, but notably one that speaks to intelligent planning and creative thinking. The Grand Cherokee is truly a major achievement and a well positioned part of the puzzle that is revealing itself in a manner which I discribed as “smart”. This process, I must also note, empowers brand identity by hedging investment with numerous brand offerings, cleverly maintaining brand uniqueness and culture. This process also minimizes risk anxiety from market pressure and allows niche brands to endure sales fluctuations not sustainable without sharing development costs and platform architecture. The Grand Cherokee manufacturing facility demonstrates both philosophically and physically the commitment to quality and fiscal discipline that will solidify and expand the corporation. Jeep is, as a global brand, undergoing fundamental change as previewed at Melfi in the future Compass. What lies ahead for Renegade and Cherokee may also be a head turner. Indeed we can anticipate future success based on this Grand Cherokee, one unlike anything else from Jeep, but still unquestionably a Jeep. Well done guys.
