After being the second most-watched sport at the end of the millennium, the auto racing sanctioning body decided to move away from the format that made the series so popular in an attempt to capture even more followers as the sport proceeded into the next decade. Does cruelty know no limits? Any serious rumors about Dodge’s returning to NASCAR so excites die heart Dodge fans that when denial comes from high on, the pain is nothing short of torture. I took the bait many times, had many sleepless nights of anticipation and then total disappointment. Well it’s not April 1st, so OK, I’ll bite. YES dudes, it’s long past time for Dodge to return to NASCAR. I stopped watching cup racing when Dodge left, find their absence embarrassing, and totally contradictory to Dodges performance image and the huge corporate support given to Italian brand’s racing programs currently, a hypocritical insult to American racing and fans. Any Dodge fan can make many credible and logical reasons to support Dodge’s return, but I’ll make the most greedy, it’s good business. With that said, I will appeal to the Stellantis power players in the lyrics of our greatest rock music star, Elvis, ”don’t be cruel, to a heart that’s true”.

Big question IMO isn't whether Dodge should get back into NASCAR, but rather "what's NASCAR's future?"
 
I would love to see Dodge back.I have followed NASCAR for 50 + years and watched the coming and going of Dodge. I would hope to see a return.
 
I won't watch or have interest in Dodge Slapping it decals on the Nascar new generation car. They money is better spent on racing product or engines that further develop of product or the product roots. Not Brian Frances retro sports entertainment circuses.

Nascar long time left any marketing value for individual brands when the rule package focused on equality, commonality, and beyond decals zero relationship to any product offered from the manufacturers. Combined with a laughable race day package that encourages poor race craft, punting people with no penalty, openly blocking, throwing Yellows not for safety but for entertainment, not respecting race length, lottery style lap improvement, restarts that don't respect previous progress, and now the hideous heat format. It so far from having any value as a motorsport or a market platform to have ANY value.

Spend the money on NFL ad buys and continue the support of grass root racing instead.

Best description of NASCAR ever, and I actually enjoyed my one trip to the Brickyard a few years ago. Problem is, with the ascendancy of electrified autos, I'm not sure how you feed the NASCAR bug otherwise, at some point, unless you remain retro. That literal "Days of Thunder" vibe is a thing that brings fans.

Brickyard is a horrible show compared to what happen in May..... There is retro then there is steel bodies, pushrod retro.... IRS is coming soon..... Wow how last century.

Well I am with you in your view until the 'embrassing' comment. The NASCAR Mega Teams as well as their relationships with the manufacturers are not up front in certain circumstances. FCA-Dodge spent alot of time, effort, money and development on the their last generation Charger that never was. Unfortunately Penske, the deal maker pulled the rug from underneath Dodge at the last possible moment causing your 'embrassing moment'. Even Keselowski was naive when he went on national tv two days after the fallout saying Penske would still build the Dodge engines for the Dodge Teams? (errrr... what Dodge teams?) Really? There would no way such an engine builder would build for two manufacturers! I guess if there is anyone to blame, Dodge being naive that Penske was backing them all along as well as Penske for doing it the day after Dodge rolled out the new model!

Dodge had a chance, but didn't strike while the iron was hot. Penske got cold feet.

Question No. 1: Why did Penske Racing in March announce that it was dumping Dodge and moving to Ford for 2013?

Answer: Because while Penske was prepared to re-sign with Dodge, the manufacturer screwed around with the approval process long enough for Ford to step in with an offer Roger Penske couldn't refuse. Why Dodge left NASCAR and how it might come back

Penske had cold feet for good reason. SM wouldn’t commit for anymore than a year, despite Penske just handing him a Championship.
SM wanted to sink the money instead into that heap Fiat. Nascrock is dead, so there’s no reason to waste any money on it now. How about some decently priced hybrids & electric vehicles instead? Or a midsized pickup or small car or anything that don’t involve Jeep getting all the new vehicles. How about investing the money instead into Dodge and Chrysler product. (And no, I don’t mean a dodge hellicatphant 8000 HP car!)
 
The money was channeled from Advertising then rerouted to Ad buys elsewhere like the NFL. These are different pots of money
 
Yeah the marketing research indicated that failed when the cars lost their Manufacturing identity....

Win of Sunday.... But a Tshirt or bumpersticker on Monday..... Drive a Kia.

As long as the NASCAR ban on the Hemi remains Dodge won't be back.
 
Hey, Tony Stewart Racing took two of Mopars biggest NHRA stars... no announcement of a manufacturer... hmmmm

Past and present came together in a unique way Tuesday, as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer drove the Next Gen car at historic Bowman Gray Stadium.

Of the three drivers in the car Tuesday, Stewart was the busiest. He drove the car as part of a tire test to help Goodyear prepare for the Feb. 6 NASCAR Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. He made multiple runs.

Earnhardt and Bowyer each drove about 50 laps to familiarize themselves with the new car that debuts at the Clash.

NASCAR chose Bowman Gray Stadium – which has hosted racing since 1949 – because the flat quarter-mile track around a football field is the same setup that will be built for the LA Memorial Coliseum.
