2025 Ram Heavy Duty Lineup Revealed: Cummins Diesel Power, Towing, and New Features

2025 Ram Heavy Duty Lineup Revealed: Cummins Diesel Power, Towing, and New Features

Enhanced Powertrain Options: Meet the Updated 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel and 8-Speed Auto...

1736326872684.png

The Ram brand enters 2025 with an updated 1500 lineup, a new CEO (Mopar Legend Tim Kuniskis), and has just unveiled the 2025 Ram heavy duty lineup, emphasizing increased power, luxury, and advanced technologies. While we have been speculating for years about what changes Ram would make when they updated their heavy-duty lineup, we now know everything about it, and we think Ram fans will be happy.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 will be available in Regular, Crew, and Mega Cab configurations as in the past. Regular Cab models are available exclusively with an 8-foot bed. In contrast, Crew Cab models will be available with either a 6’4 foot bed or an 8-foot bed. Mega Cabs will soldier on with 6’4 foot beds exclusively.

Well here it is, as long as they don’t call it all new (lol). Looks like they are taking a GM style play and not trying to be the biggest power numbers and making small improvements instead, and making some grills look well ugly in the process (Rebel) what’s going on there.

But it should work as a tool for sure as long as they price it right and don’t have major recall issues.

why is power down in the 6.4 by 5 be nice to have that info, but hey at least the Hemi is still available.

They maybe should of offered the 4:10 as a option for more towing but what do i know.

Hope they are very reliable because that’s what matters most in this class of pickups.

Seems Ram is now following Ford and GM with mismash Grille design! these grilles are going everywhere! up, down, sideways, with bars, inserts, etc. IT just does not flow! that is what set Ram apart in the Past! Grilles that were not Ugly! and all over the Place! like Fords and GM's then to take off the option of having chrome Bumpers on the Front and back I think is a Big mistake! they are catering to the enviro (hate chrome plating process) nuts with this! why not give us old heads at least a choice of a chrome Bumper on front and the back! as an option! those painted bumpers are No a go for me! I would hope some aftermarket folks make some Chrome Bumpers for these! I Like the Upgrades-drive line wise! and shifter!!!! Ram should of Known when us work truck Guys use our trucks with heavy gloves on that rotary shifter sucked! column shifting is a lot easier! with big gloves on! and does not get dirt all over everything! like when using the rotary shifter did! I hope they upgraded the LIfter's in the 6.4 Hemi! Engine, because that's been a pain!!! and one of the reasons the heavy duty's sales dropped!!!- Word of mouth rules! I know! I get asked all the time If I have Hemi tick! and I get mad when I have be honest and say yes! cause the jokes start! but the Jokes on us Ram owners with failing Lifter systems! Again I have the failing Lifter Hemi Tick! in my 2019!!! 6.4 hemi that has the cylinder deactivation system, also known as Multi Displacement System (MDS) I hate this!!!! And Again I HOPE they UPGRADED THE LIFTERS! for 2025! I do hope Ram comes back with stronger sales!!! across the board even with those ugly grilles! that's the MOPAR IN ME!

Being positive here. These Ram employees are not just sitting around, some really good things it seems are coming from their efforts. My half full glass gives hope to better days and credit too for some great things done under very challenging circumstances. I’m so boosted by these Rams that I’m going to pour a half full glass of Champagne and toast these too often maligned employees at Ram. Salute!

Agree on those ugly grills. Ouch !
Some caution, how will Ram resolve the Made in America situation on the Pro Master and City Master commercial vans? I see a real issue. As a work truck guy do you have any thoughts on these vital work vehicles ?

,,, how will Ram resolve the Made in America situation on the Pro Master and City Master commercial vans?
Ram has never said where the battery electric power train for the ProMaster EV comes from, so I don't know if that model is in trouble. I suspect the incoming administration and the Mexican government will reach some sort of agreement on the tariffs. The transmissions for these vans come from Kokomo, Americans being laid off because of tariffs would cause some embarrassment. The ProMaster City last came from Turkey. Nobody knows what side Turkey's government is on in any of the ongoing conflicts. The next PMC, based on the Fiat Scudo, will probably come from Europe. I think the best way around any potential tariffs would be assemble imported knock downs here in the US and use American built drivetrain pieces, whether ICE or electric. I would also do the same thing with the Fiat Doblo.

You’re new here…

Nothing you’ve said is remotely accurate. “Hemi tick” costs sales? Lie. There are more Ram Hemis out there than there ever has been, because the package is really really good. The tick also doesn’t lead to engine failure, it’s a weird quirk but engines don’t fail left and right. Hell, you’ll get a longer service life after the tick develops than before, because they just keep running. Fact.

The dial is an issue? Another lie. It’s gets dirt all over? A lie. I don’t know anyone that wears gloves inside their truck, never have.

You CAN get chrome. Has nothing to do with environment and everything to do with customer demand….the body color packages look AMAZING

Don’t come here with lies and bogus claims

Glad they finally replaced their obsolete transmission, which cost them my sale in '22. I looked up the build sheet options and they have 3.73 and 4.10 gear options thankfully because 3.42 is ridiculous. Still has the junk AAM axles and no manual locking hubs. The Cummins should not have glow plugs; that will be another thing to deal with....sigh! The 6.7 keeps turning more into a consumer grade engine instead of a medium duty commercial grade engine with every new iteration. The styling is a mixed bag; that Rebel is horrid, but the truck isn't as ugly as the others. At least it isn't as ugly as the GM trucks. The Laramie and Longhorn packages look good and I can get the chrome bumpers if I want. I guess I'll see how they do the next couple years. I highly doubt that I will give Stellantis my money. Been driving these for decades but I don't know anymore. I'm pretty tired of driving an inferior truck so I can have the Cummins engine; I'm done with that. Bummer they removed the dark red and silver from their color options; hope they comes back. Can't say I like the options available.

Update: I just noticed in the builder that the gear options are only available with the Hemi. So, if you want the diesel, you are stuck with 3.42s....lol Wow, well that is a hard pass for me. I'm not spending 90k on a truck to have to regear it. I wonder if there are issues with their new transmission resulting in higher gears being used.

Just for the record, the Ram HDs aren't the only trucks offering the Cummins B-series Diesel engines. One might need a CDL for those other options however.

Well you corrected yourself, 3.42’s are only gear with diesel. Also not the first time they’ve done this…’10 to roughly ‘13 roughly the only gear you could get with Cummins was 3.42. And was absolutely never a problem Never.

There’s also nothing wrong with the 68RFE. It is not, never has been and never will be, junk or a bad transmission. Period. It holds up well and has perfect ratio splits. Yes, the valve body castings can lead to pressure bleed off but that’s EASY to address. From there, folks beat on them in 5th and 6th and kill fhem, tuned or not. There’s insufficient clutching but when driven with common sense, it’s a total nonissue.

Let’s be realistic: you’re not an actual customer. You’re a new dude that joined just to whine, and that’s pitiful.

Not an actual customer?

Well, my first Ram 2500 was a '96; second Ram 3500 was an '01 (still own this one); skipped the 3rd gen because of the 48RE and the AAM axle change; 3rd Ram 3500 was an '18...decided to not buy a '22 because I thought it was stupid they weren't updating it, and yes the games they played with their obsolete 6sps were bad even in my 4th gen. My first Jeep was an '06, my second JK was a '!4, and my 3rd JL was an '18 (still own all three). But, hey I guess I'm not an actual customer, and it is pitiful to voice criticism on what is preventing this company from keeping my business? And, I know exactly what the 68RE is and isn't....I have one that I use for pulling a goose neck trailer. Here is the dealership that lost my '22 order for the reasons I stated: Christopher's Dodge Ram | Dodge & Ram Dealership | Denver As far as being a customer; I've been one since the 90s so bad assumption on your part especially since I was waiting for the new HD to drop because I will be replacing my '18 at some point when I find something I want. The fact that I am trying to figure what I am going to buy next is probably the reason I am on this site among others and looking at it right after it's release. The pic isn't the best of my 2nd and 4th gen, but here they are along with my Rubicons. But yes, I am critical and that criticism is earned.

Correct. You’re not an actual customer of the new truck. No one cares what you have or had before smart guy….so spare the “I had this and I have that and here’s pics” because, that’s got zero relevance to the NEW TRUCK that isn’t even out yet.

Oh and yes, the AAM thing was the other moronic comment you made. Thanks for reminding me….the AAM axles are the best thing they ever went to! Jesus, literally every complaint you’ve made is total trash and not rooted in reality. The 48re? Nothing wrong with those, and if either of your previous trucks were an automatic they had the less stout version of the 48!

You’re another ignorant a$$ with a bogus opinion not cemented in fact, that I can see clearly

I haven't laughed so hard for a long time. This is the best thing they ever went to? ....using axles by a company spun off from GM, the worst driveline company in the industry? How crazy of me to want a 9.5 Dana 60 when I can have this awesome 9.25 AAM unit in the front of my truck....lol

Nobody on this forum has purchased and taken delivery of the new truck.....so, nobody here is a customer and can have opinions, questions, concerns about it? ....does that include you too?

1. 48RE - Dodge kept using this "updated" one long after their competitors were using 5 and 6 speeds; which makes for pulling a heavy trailer with 3 power gears a PITA especially at 9k ft where I live. They fell behind the competition until 2007. In true Mopar fan fashion; "they are strong!!!" Who cares; 4sp overdrives suck; technology changed and they fell behind, which they are doing again. I'm fully aware of the 47RE, and what I have in mine....unfortunately.
2. 68RE - Ram de-tuned the Cummins and lowered the tow rating to accommodate this transmission(The SO version....lol). I could write a lot about this thing but why bother; I have it, I use it, it sucks, it's obsolete as a diesel transmission especially in the 3500 dually I own, and has been for 10 years. My truck is a 69k mistake, a POS compared to my neighbor's '22 Super Duty, and I will eventually dump it for something better.
3. Aisin - Ram charged a 3k premium to do what their competition did standard. The transmission was less then ideal and required de-reving between shifts to keep it together based on everything I read about it. I guess it gets the job done, but it is an old tired inefficient dog that can't be tuned and needed to be put to rest much sooner. After I really dug into the Aisin, I learned more about it, and compared it to what else was out there, I felt it was the wrong decision in '22. I personally thought dropping $86k on a truck with an obsolete transmission was foolish, so I informed my sales guy that I'll come back when the truck is updated to industry standards. So, here we are....I'm looking.
4. People generally do care if a person is a long time customer and has actually owned the stuff as apposed to someone who hasn't. Well, you might not care but given some of the other reactions I've seen in response to you in other posts....well, I'll just leave it at that.
5. Will I order the new truck? We'll see; I've been waiting three years for it to come out and I will take a closer look at it. I can't say that I am too excited about anything that Stallantis is doing so it would need to be pretty good to earn my business back. I will be replacing my '18 before the Mopar extended warranty expires because it's a POS.

Awesome, OTA updates now which means they can monitor anytime the engine is modified. Who wants control of their own property these days anyhow?

Lots of changes to the engine EXCEPT the roller rocker valvetrain which has been problematic. Genius.

A "revised" version of the problematic CP4 injection pump which has sidelined countless HD trucks over the years. Wonderful.

Maybe the Hemi is the one to go with. Except, when the Hemi needed a HP/torque bump to stay competitive they decided to go the other way and reduce power slightly instead. Great!

I really wonder about this company sometimes. What in the world are they thinking? And I won't even get into the 2009 model year cab they're still using that doesn't even have a full size second row seat or a flat load floor or modern sound deadening.....

OTA updates are an unfortunate reality these days. Ford, GM, and now Ram can all do it. I do believe there are ways that tuners can disable that "feature" if you start "playing" with your truck though.

That said I agree it's frustrating, I'm in Canada and would love to delete my truck, but there is no way into the ECM yet and they've been out for over a year.

I don't understand keeping the same cab either at this point, especially with the Classic now gone. You think they'd get better economies of scale going to the 5th gen cab. I guess they didn't want to invest in doing a new regular cab and Mega Cab version of it.

The eight-speed is going to be a big drivability boost, I'm glad they did away with the SO, but I don't think they went far enough with this update to make it a "gotta have it" update. When I finally get to drive one, my opinion might change, but these are my initial opinions.

Based on your signature and mine, it looks like we both spoke with our wallets.

You’re so out of touch with reality it’s comical.

The AAM axles are absolutely stronger than a Dana 60. Show me any Dana 60 that holds 3000hp 4x4 boosted launches…bone stock. I’ll wait. Here’s a tip: you’ll never find it.

Again, the 48re has never been an issue. The competition at the time had 5 speeds, and Allison had just gone to 6. Wow, you live at 9k. Woolly doo, I drive in areas of 11+. The four speeds, while not overly great, do a fine job. Certainly more gears are better, but to pretend the competition had superior options at the time is foolish and obtuse.

Again, you’re a liar. The 68rfe isn’t worse than the 10 speed that can’t hold together🤣 We’re you trying to make me laugh? Another point in the “you’re an idiot” column for you.

And no, no you don’t need to lift on shift for the Aisin. And it’s arguably better than the 10 speeds, because it actually holds together. GM can’t keep their GM-built transmission together, and ford is having the same issues. Turns out, which was no surprise to anyone, that when you “add gears” you have less room for clutches, and fewer clutches in smaller diameter drums, doesn’t actually hold up well.

You’re so out to lunch it’s difficult to take you seriously. Every point you make is totally wrong. Every. Single. One.
