1988 Chrysler LeBaron Indy Pace Car

I am somewhat confused on this car being offered at the Mecum Auction in Indy next week. The Indy 500 race was held on May 24, 1987, and to my knowledge, all of the 1000 LeBaron Pace Car replicas were all 1987 models and advertised as such. However, this one is listed as a 1988 LeBaron, with a 1988 Vin number. Where any of the 1000 Pace Cars actually 1988 models or extremely late builds? To add confusion to this car, it has a front license plate that reads Number 95?? Any thoughts or verification? Thanks for offering any clarification.

The more I looked things up, the more confusing it gets. Should be an 87 model year.
