Dodge Durango Racetrack Tail Light Lawsuit Moves Forward

Class Action Lawsuit Claims Water Damage Leads To Costly LED Tail Light Replacement

The popular third-generation Dodge Durango (WD) is facing a significant class action lawsuit over its distinctive “racetrack” LED tail lights. Owners of 2014 to 2023 Dodge Durango SUVs claim that water intrusion into the solid rear light assemblies is leading to widespread electrical failures and expensive repair costs.

There are 2 black screws 10mm on the inside of rear hatch on each side with hatch open they are above your head Remove the bottom one on each side and watch the water run out. I left one bolt out on each side so the water can drain but it only drains when the hatch is open so after decent rain fall at least a half a cup of water drains out 2016 Durango bought used with 21k in 2019. Noticed condensation in tailights immediately there is actually a decent space between the plastic housing and the lens I just thought I'd share my experience with this pathetic problem I'm yearning for an 1157

What? February 1, 2027, for the Jury Trial (if it goes that far)!! You have got to be kidding me! If Stellantis was smart, they would settle really fast and fix the problem on the assembly line seeing there will be 2 more model years of this model Durango. The numbers of failures, and the refunds that may have to be paid out, the longer they wait the bigger this bill will be. I highly doubt this can be won seeing the high numbers of failures for taillights, camaras, wipers and rear defrosters. If they wait till 2/27, can you imagine the number of failures in the next 2 years? How about the ones already fixed, and the installer did not correct the leak issue, and it goes back for a re-repair or another part failure.
As the owner of a '21 Durango, I noticed water for the first time at the end of last summer after using a car wash. My vehicles was 40 months old at that point. I did do the screw removal which drained the water. So far, no failure. I did get on the class action suit, so now I wait.

Yes, great advice CVM. I was told by a mechanic at my local Dodge dealer to do this. He said this helps slow down the process by letting the water out, but it still holds moisture. He said it is a short-term fix until this issue gets resolved. If ever!

Another option is, you can call Chrysler/Dodge service center and request good will assistance. They, if approved will pay for the light, and you will have to pay for just the labor. This is a BIG savings. I had a left LED daytime driving light out. To repair this was about $1100 in change since my extended warranty did not cover lighting and the whole assembly had to be replaced by dropping the bumper. Chrysler covered the part, and I paid just a tad of the 2 1/2 hour labor which was about $235. My dealer also threw in a free $90 oil change just for the inconvenience. May be an option for the taillights too.
