Ram’s Future Van: E-Scudo to Lead the Charge in U.S. Market

Ram’s Future Van: E-Scudo to Lead the Charge in U.S. Market

Compact Fiat E-Scudo Rumored as Basis for New Ram ProMaster City...

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis is expressing a strong desire to add another van to the brand’s lineup. Speaking with Automotive News, Kuniskis emphasized his interest in a passenger van, even as the market for minivans appears to be shrinking.

Nice looking van. Could use it for the new ProMaster City. That is a nice nitch we lost part of in 2023. I get that they will keep it an EV, but an ICE version is a must. The 143 mile version will never cut it in the delivery field (Amazon/FedEx), not even sure it the 205 would either. Most delivery vans are left running when the driver steps out to drop the package. That along in the cold winter states may have an issue the a long charge issue. Long delivery versions may need an ICE. The EV’s would probably be better for service vans or short delivery vans, like auto parts, or flower delivery.

"Kuniskis emphasized his interest in a passenger van, even as the market for minivans appears to be shrinking." It might appear to be shrinking from the view out the window at Auburn Hills, but all the minivans of the competition have experienced a growth in sales in 2024.

I wonder where it would be built in light of the tariff threat and the decades old chicken tax. Knockdowns perhaps?

I see the Rivian vans in cold weather cities. They work great for larger cities. The short one has a range of 161 miles and the long one's range is 153 miles. Amazon has a private charging network of Level 2 charging stations at the terminals. The range has not been a problem with them since they also have ICE powered vans in their fleet for service further beyond the depot.

Hey Tim! We want the Doblo EZ Pro. Just put the hybrid system from the front drive Renegade hybrid into it.

Good way to build your Fleet(overall) total is Fleet(actual commercial) sales. Bring it on.

This also seems a better size for the USA market.

I agree with Triple, this is a better size for our market. I also agree with Mike that an ICE version is necessary, even required, to succeed in our market. Again, this is not Europe and the requirements are different.
The original City had a passenger van option which had a very limited capacity for hauling groups of people from place to place. I’d give a passenger van a shot at our market.
Walking away, as Ram did in essence, from a potential market especially in the urban areas was shortsighted. Just do it already.

In all fairness to Ram, everyone walked away from that segment of the market. GM, Nissan, Mercedes, and Ford all pulled their small vans from the market.

Waiting for this, I drive a 2018 PMC and love it so holding on to it with dear life.

But it's a van so just hope it comes standard with V2H 120v plugs in the back and some kind of camp/pet mode to run climate inside while parked with lights off until battery runs out.

Also maybe by the time we get this (2026 I presume) we might have 250mi range and 15 minute 20%-80% charging?

I want it, but one concern is Florida EV infrastructure up through US 27 in the south to middle is non existent and this shows me that our Government is not onboard with EV yet.

If Ram is serious about competing with Ford in the commercial and fleet vehicle business the need to examine the whole Scudo lineup.
Here is something I would like to see.

North America never received a version of the last generation Doblo's platform cab and in turn meant we didn't get the Work Up version. Realistically just the bare chassis-cab vehicles are exempt from the chicken tax. Ram trucks would have to allow the after market to take care of the rest.

None of the Scudo's IC engine powertrain options are acceptable for our market, especially with the looming EPA'27 diesel standards. The Pentaster probably won't fit. My opinion is use the. GME-T EVO with the 9-speed used in the Ram ProMaster and Chrysler Pacifica. The Pacifica offers a mechanical AWD option using the 9-speed automatic and that would be a great option for a Ram PMC. I also wonder if the hybrid system from the Pacifica would work for the PMC.

It's funny that the Scudo is being called a small van. Looking at the brochure for the 1976 Dodge Tradesman Vans, these B-series vans with the 127 inch wheelbase have an overall length of 194 inches for the standard length version, which is is about 4 inches shorter than the standard Fiat Scudo's overall length. The 1976 Tradesman Maxi van has an overall length of 212 inches which is about 3 inches longer than the long version of the Scudo. The top powertrain option in the 1976 Dodge vans was a 440 V8 combined with the 727 Torqueflite 3 speed automatic but most were either the slant six or 318 V8.

Forget passenger vans, We need a bare metal panel cargo van in this size in the US desperately. That all 3 brands are suddenly gone is a conspiracy.
EV would be great if we could get 250 mi range real world highway and recharge 150 miles in 15 minutes. Also need 120v 15a aux power plugs in the back and a Camp/Pet mode that lets us run the A/C or heater with lights off while parked so long as there is 10% battery left. All these specs are very reasonable by 2026.
This van would be a game changer and sell like hot cakes.. TRUST ME.

That all 3 brands are suddenly gone is a conspiracy.
The previous administration arbitrarily changed the rules on how the small imported vans may avoid the chicken tax. This happened at the same time there were government financial benefits given for buying full size battery electric vans, which collapsed the market.

The best we can do at this time is a range extended EV.
