In a move that could excite longtime fans, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis has hinted at the possibility of the HEMI® V8 engine making a comeback in the Ram 1500 lineup. While speaking to Motor1, Kuniskis clarified that bringing back the HEMI wouldn’t be immediate due to technical and logistical challenges.

They don’t need the Etorque system in it doesn’t do anything other than have smooth restarts at the street light, i have had two of them now no mileage increases to speak of and the truck shifts wierd compared to the non etorque models.

They should take this time to improve the Hemi or Magnum engine that may have been in the works before being cancelled, bring out that 7.0 litre in a performance model do something to get people excited.

I agree. I would rather go with no HEMI V8 for three or four years to get a state-of-the-art Gen4 HEMI V8.

The Hemi should be the top gas engine for Dodges and Rams while the new 6 should be reserved for the larger Jeeps and Chryslers. I know car makers want one size fits all so they can please the bean counters. But that is not totally practical nor is it appropo from a marketing standpoint point. People still want V8s and will jump ship to get them so Stellantis should give the folks what they want to buy . Instead of telling people to follow the manufacturers market the reverse should be the modus operandi imo.

Motor Trend basically gave Truck of the year to RAM over the new I6, how refined and how it performed. Embarrassed the Hemi, yet here we sit claiming it a bad application. It outperforms all the competition V8 engines in the application. Yet here we sit, the Hemi reputation exceeds the reality, and that is with love.

The recently retired 5.7L Eagle V8 engine dates back to 2003 and had some needed modifications in 2009. Since then it has been unchanged except for the addition of e-torque in 2019. It performed amazingly well in that 22 year span. The Hemi name itself helped sell a lot of cars and trucks. If Dodge and Ram do bring back a new V8, it needs to be a somewhat clean sheet design in a smaller displacement format. A 4.0L with twin turbos may be just about right. Hopefully, this meets the upcoming emission standards by the incoming and future administrations.
By stating this I am not dissing the 3.0L I6. I have seen reviews of this engine that are pretty darn good. And I love the idea of an I6 for a truck. But from a marketing standpoint, it is not a Hemi V8 (neither was the Eagle actually). And Americans, especially, red-blooded, carnivorous, etc... ones, want a V8. It's what we have grown up with and it is a status symbol. And most people are willing to pay more for driving a status symbol than for something that makes sense for their transportation needs. Stellantis needs to give the resources to Dodge and Ram to deliver for their buying public. It's all about giving the customer what he or she wants.
Also, it's hard to blame Stellantis for dropping the V8 from it's lineup and aggressively pursuing BEV's. They were only doing what their respective governments were mandating thru fines and regulations. And if you see what price Tesla stock is doing, why not want a piece of that pie? I understand the metrics but also I don't agree with our government in this regard. I am hoping that Ram and Dodge have a contingency plan for a new ICE V8.
