@cygnus
It dependa on the competitors. What are they offering.
Is it being cross shops with BMW X5. We are talking about WL.
If answer is yes then you should offer similar powertrains. There is no place for naturally aspirated V6 especially if 2.0 turbo is superior in every way.
And so on and...
Ex FCA has many powertrains in their portfolio. I don't see it as an issue.
The issue is stop of development for some powertrains, stop of many electrified powertrain development many years ago and so on.
Times can't be run backwards. And I think that FCA has lost many years of development...
@cygnus
STLA is getting cheap and stingy. At least that was the way under Carlos. I'm hopping for a change in direction.
REEV? Much smaller engine would be sufficient or even a naturally aspirated engine.
New Cherokee is FWD based, transverse engine although on STLA Large platform.
STLA...
They have electric motor if you order them as such. But usually you must buy them from ZF and not build under a licence.
Stateside production in North Caroline(I think it's there) starts in 2025. Not sure about China.
It was 2022 in Europe I think. Not sure at what scale.
Transmissions are ZF...
I can comment about powertrain strategy the whole day.
The story is. Ship had sailed with Sergio.
Advent of Manley was the end of many electrification projects, many hybrids, but also many engine variations, of course in the first place as a hybrid.
Then came Peugeot and killed more of it...
For entry level BEV from STLA... A lot will depend of LFP battery adoption.
So far only LFP cars by Stellantis are on STLA smart car platform. Entry level low cost cars. A s they have a very low battery capacity.
STLA Large so far has 3 subversions with 4th coming.
RWD one for Charger, multienergy
FWD for 3 Mexican Jeeps, multienergy
BEV only so far for Giulia and Stelvio
4th is for some SUV models like Grand Cherokee, Durango and big Alfa SUV
In general I'm afraid of too high weight. For STLA Large cars in general.
The other one is battery management. It seems that STLA is not at where it should be. Inefficient BEV products.
This is all sort of game of thrones.
Based on what I've read from press it seems that French Unions in general are the only one which are clearly not happy with this decision.
But this was my opinion all along. Some choices were made to keep French supplier base and engineering in tact.
Now...
Look. Mildly if not low boost. High compression ratio and hybrid.
Hint: European short lived 1.5 GSE which had great plans but Manley and Tavares killed it.
Wrong choice if you ask me.
It should be Millerized 2.0 but what do I know.
A lot, really a lot of wrong powertrain/engine planning and development choices on bog sides of the pond.
There is only one Ferrari. Only one car is known for floatplane V8 and... And V12.
Crossplane OHV V8 are American thing.
BTW. Just imagine Maserati with floatplane V8. It would be ridiculous.
Maserati was well known for their crossplane V8s. Which Manley killed.
@cygnus
Well... First of all we should see prediction and sales numbers by engine, cabin type, and so on and on. By FoMoCo, GM and Stellantis. Then we may draw some conclusion.
To be honest I'm not against GME T6, I'm for it but I'm also not for it as the sole engine option.
