Do what? The base car has used the same engine for 11 years now with zero changes. The entry level V8 car has been the same for 13 years with no power improvements. The "upgrade" V8 engine in the 392 cars is also over a decade old with no power improvements during its entire run so far.
The...
That would be extremely interesting. But I imagine that they'll run into the same issues Ford, GM, and Stellantis are already running into; how do you source enough materials to build the orders you take? We're looking at years to see enough product to meet orders the "Big 3" have already...
I personally can't stand when automakers do this. It's so painful. They announce and show off a vehicle that some people REALLY want, and then it ends up being 3 years before those folks can actually get one. Ford has done the same with the F-150 Lightning...those are currently sold out for 3...
It's interesting. I wonder if they'll do it? Jeeps are often used out in the middle of nowhere, far from any electrical outlets. That's why the 4xe works for a Jeep. But a full EV? Hmm... talk about range anxiety while out in the desert.
The F-150 Lightning is totally sold out. No more reservations, and one of the largest dealers in Kentucky told me on the phone that they're expecting 3 years to actually have any on the lot.
So I reserved a Silverado EV. It's only $100 bucks, and it is refundable up until I officially place...
I did some napkin math this morning comparing the Lightning to my current 2016 Toyota Tundra which has been averaging 13 MPG @ $3.65/gallon.
My Tundra goes ~350 miles on ~27 gallons of fuel which works out to 3.57 miles per dollar, or $420 per month at 1,500 miles traveled per month.
The...
Since it's inevitable that new tech is coming and we can't do anything about it, I'm coming around to the idea of a PHEV pickup truck. My drive to work is 19 miles. The Jeep 4xe would get me from my house to work in the mornings with no gasoline. I'd prefer a pickup truck for my use though...
What's more intriguing to me is the Ram 1500. Have they mentioned a firm date when the new I-6T goes on sale in the Ram?
5th Gen Ram is now in it's 4th model year, so the mid-cycle refresh should be coming up soon and that would be a great time for them to offer the new engine if they're...
YUCK.
All of the things that make engines less reliable and more of a PITA to keep on the road long term are showing up on this engine.
ESS (which some sources claim will NOT be disabled with a dash button)
DOHC
VVT
Direct Injection
Forced Induction
Fancy cylinder lining process that's been...
With all the uncertainty in the world right now, insane prices, and supply/production issues I decided to buy a nice used R/T specimen so I will at least have a V8 Challenger. Out of curiosity I emailed Dodge and they wrote back that my VIN checks out as "one of one" sold in the U.S. equipped...
It should, but there are much better options on the market, including some that don't even require drilling/wiring in the cab. Check out the Curt Echo controller. It's awesome. I love mine.
I'm hoping that toward the end of 2023 calendar year I will be able to afford to snag up a Challenger Scat Pack while I can still get one new. Fingers crossed....
So we're being forced to trade the whine of a supercharger and the growl and visceral feel of a V8 engine for a silent humm of electric motor? And we're not being given a choice?
Yeah, that sounds like freedom and liberty to me.
Guess I must just be lucky. We even have a rock quarry 2 miles or so from my house. Dump trucks on the roads all the time.
I do long highway trips around Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Commute to work in bumper to bumper traffic. Play around off road at times.
I've never had one...
4 Wranglers and 2 Gladiators and I've never had a cracked windshield. Ever.
But for $95 I would have ordered this option anyway! Can't hurt I guess.
I wonder what kind of acoustic change it'll make to the interior sound quality of the audio system and noise overall?
Gladiator is apples and oranges from Wrangler. What works for JL doesn't work for JT.
JT is already pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable GVWR for a mid size truck now, so adding several hundred pounds more weight is going to make it really hard for them to maintain any respectable...
I agree with you. A lot of the Ram 2500 trucks with the Cummins engine are in the 2,000 lbs. payload range. That's 1/2 ton truck territory these days. Not acceptable in my opinion. The 6.4L Hemi is also getting long in the tooth. 429 lb/ft of torque was good a decade ago. Today it's not...
The Ram HD needs a Hemi upgrade. Granted that's the "truck" version of the 6.4, but it's coming up on a decade old now and it's falling WAYYY behind what GM and especially Ford are doing. The media towing reviews with the 6.4L in the Ram are, well, let's just say "not good" to be kind.
