A newly spotted camouflaged van riding on Stellantis’ “K0” midsize platform might be our first look at a future North American commercial vehicle. Captured by sharp-eyed photographer Walter Vayr (@GabetzSPYUnit), the prototype appears similar to existing Fiat vans sold in Europe, but some unique details have led to speculation that this could be a future Ram ProMaster City, slated for a possible 2026 launch.

With the pullback of plugin drivetrains in our market, along with the cancellation of the LCV hydrogen fuel cell project globally, I am left wondering what the future holds for this van. I imagine that battery electric vans will fill a need for some commercial and fleet buyers. Fleets often utilize their own private charging networks and delivery vans may have a fixed route or specific geographic area to operate in. Electric vans make sense in such market niches, but don't generate large sales numbers.

My hope is that there will be a Ram PMC in our market once again. The hybrid drivetrain from the Jeep Cherokee would be a great substitute for the EV drivetrain. I still wonder if there is room to replace the fuel cell from the hydrogen van with a small IC engine instead, since the original concept the HFC was to be the range extender combined with some battery operation.
