Leapmotor Lands in Brazil with Backing from Stellantis

Leapmotor Lands in Brazil with Backing from Stellantis

Chinese EV Brand Begins Importing C10 SUVs Ahead of 2025 Launch

Leapmotor, the up-and-coming Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand backed by Stellantis, has officially kicked off its Brazilian launch by importing its first batch of vehicles into the country. These initial units mark a major milestone for the brand’s South American expansion, with retail sales set to begin in 2025.

First a bit of sarcasm. We probably won't see a Leap Motor product here if the plan is to introduce them into expanding markets.🤡

Now a serious thought. Some of the Leap products adapted for our markets, built here with American components, should be considered. It would be resource intensive because Stellantis would have to go well beyond their typical badge engineering and offer brand specific styling respectful of the brand's heritage. This would include interior design. Leap's current range extending technology is a generation behind what ZF is offering, but the rest of the battery electric engineering is worth a look.

Well since the only viable solution is cast iron V8s, backdoor into the market for STLA looks like this... When our beloved brands are retired we can look at this moment...

Introducing Leapmotor to the US is a bad idea in my opinion.
And Stellantis is just going to have to find ways to design and build cars more efficiently in order to compete in the future. Bringing back V8's and ICE, in general, will help save the company in the short term, but new propulsion systems should always be evaluated and tested. BEV's are improving but this country still doesn't have the infrastructure to support it. Not only would we need a lot more charging stations, but we need to make a lot more electricity too. And not just from wind and solar, which has been a huge disappointment. Let's go nuclear and have a stable, reliable grid.
Let's let the markets decide what the next propulsion systems will be and let them compete on an equal playing field. Hydrogen shows a lot of potential as a clean fuel source as well.

One doesn't understand. The Next system from Chinese .... WELL FOR THAT MATTER EVERYONE ELSE. Is ICE powered a Inverter, on a BEV platform and Motors. You can plug it in if you wish or just fill it up and go. Its as quick as EV but lighter and small batteries.

The market is deciding pure ice is shrinking away to nothing. Beyond the Truck market is is increasingly rare. The only company that seems to be HOG TIED into only offering old solutions is STLA.

What bringing LEAP or some other brand allows STLA to move forward without the Trolling.

People rather see their favorite brand fall in to obscurity then move forward.

I'm sorry that you are disappointed that Americans aren't buying more BEV cars and trucks. Dodge introduced the electric Charger almost 2 years ago and no one bought it. Ram has the REV coming out sometime next year and that may do better. But most Americans want their V8's, at least for now. It can't continue forever as something better will come along that will spark customer interest. STLA has not only been tied to old but proven and popular technology, but has not put much emphasis on the NA market in general. That seems to be changing somewhat these days. I hope it continues.
I like the idea of an inline 6 cylinder ICE. Why not develop a 4 liter V8 from the same technology for a few halo cars and trucks? Let's go hybrid as well. Toyota is the top selling car company in the world and they are going all hybrid in the US. I think that is a smart move.
One thing is for sure, I will never buy a Leapmotor vehicle in my lifetime. And if STLA brings them to the NA market, I will boycott STLA and go spend my hard earned money somewhere else.

Proving my point once again…. Toyota and Honda have nearly removed the connection between the ICE motor and drivetrain …. And you don’t even realize it.

That is the new Hybrid…. Everyone is doing it EVERYONE but….. yeah our company.

You take your BEV driver and platform, a smaller battery, and ice connected to an inverter. Call it a Hybrid

You made my point while thinking you were disputing it.

As for popular and tried and true…. Volume disputes that. Everyone else is fine and good without them.

The only way Mopar can bring new drivetrains via sub brands to survive maybe this is the answer

BTW BEV outsold Performance cars nearly 3 to 1... and that is counting the not V8 versions of those vehicles.

In the lead article to this thread it states that the range extender setup should be popular because Brazil's charging infrastructure is in its beginning stages. It is much like our country.

When Toyota's 1:6:90 rule was revealed it didn't take into account extended range EVs or mild hybrids. Other entities have offered credible evidence that a range extended EV uses approximately 1/4 of the battery capacity of the same vehicle as a pure electric. The Toyota rule is a pure battery electric requires the same amount of batteries as 6 PHEVs or 90 hybrids. Some of the Fiat enthusiast sites joke that the new Fiat 500 hybrid uses the same amount of batteries as a flashlight.

Dumping 3/4 of the batteries in the Charger EV or Wagoneer S and replacing that with an ICE range extender would transform those vehicles.

Stellantis needs a good variety of drivetrain electrification strategies across their lineup, which means mild hybrid, high volt hybrid, plugin hybrid, REEV, and pure battery electric. My fear is that the Recon will show up as a battery electric only model while the Scout will have the range extender.

Worst the Recon is going to get the Gutless Punch.
