People were straight-up furious with Ram after it was announced that the 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 would be going off into the sunset after the 2024 model year to make way for the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter (183 cubic-inch) HURRICANE I6 engines. While the HURRICANE engines produce more power, Ram fans love the HEMI V8, and many of those fans vowed never to buy a Ram again for abandoning the V8 in their award-winning light-duty pickups.

Now lay the specification side by side.... 0-60, 1/4 Mile, tow capacity, weight, mile per gallon. Should have never been a abrupt transition. But make the case for the new powertrain while offering the old.

Notice with this effort they have already made a bigger effort to market the old powerplant in a single campaign then they have spent the entire launch of the Hurricane.

Never should have left and then instead of remarketing the old power plant they could have and should have made a appropriate energy on the new one.
 
Glad it’s back, but the Hurricane is still the objectively better choice.

Also, the “Symbol of Protest” name is terrible, but maybe it’s fitting for the wannabe rebel crowd. At least the logo looks cool.

How about a cool Hurricane Logo?!?!?!?!
 
So the Hemi has to use the eTorque BSG because that what works with the electrical architecture. Why doesn't the Hurricane 6 have a BSG? Where's the mild hybrid transmissions for the trucks?
 
The Hurricane is NOT the objectively better choice. Guys who buy trucks typically want to keep them a long time. Have you seen the idiotic engineering in the Hurricane models? Exhaust pipes blocking the transmission fluid drain, coolant hoses mashed against the firewall where you can't get to them without pulling the engine, etc. Why are some people still focused on horsepower numbers? Ownership is a total package. The Hemi provides excellent LINEAR and smooth power, the same MPG, better audible note in operation, and is a simpler design that guys can keep on the road forever.

Now that Hemi is back I'm interested again. I will wait and see if they do the 6.4L engine as rumored but if not I want a 5.7L truck again. My current truck is getting some miles on her now.
 
You have to admit, this guy has smarts, determination and leadership qualities.
Not only is the Hemi back, but with the Pentastar V-6 and the two Hurricanes available, Dodge has a solid plan in place. Some sites have issued reservations about costs and fleet sales, but Tim and company are too smart to have missed that important point. A stripped Pentastar model I am sure will be a big attraction for truck and fleet buyers.
Congratulations Dodge has truthfully gone to the head of the class.

You are so correct Bill. Now the next twist. Marketing and advertising!!! Suggestion... Bring back the "Does that thing have a Hemi in it?" guys!!! Classic commercial, and what better way to let people know is something that still gets said from time to time. I actually had someone say that to me with my Durango recently!!!

While I do agree with you on the fact that they could have beefed up the 5.7l, tbh no one with a 5.7l can really be looking at it for alot of high power or anything like that. Simplicity, tradition and nostalgia are the key points of having the 5.7l v8 back. Its 100% about marketing which is completely fine. If it sells, then sell it! I think Tim left out of the fact that he couldn't operate the way he needed to with Carlos at the helm. He probably left out of absolute frustration that Carlos was purposefully ruining the company and a power move needed to be made. His departure made sense and his triumphant return not only boosted morale at stellantis is gave all of us hope as well.

It is all Marketing, when one says Tradition and Nostaligia, that is Markeeting. and you see it marketed again while the Hurricane has hardly been mentioned no cool logo, no runnig side be side with any classics. It similar to the fact that Hornet PHEV never was marketed as PHEV. It is Mid Boggling they spent more effort marketing old heavy, slow, and thirsty powertrain in a single day more then the Hurricane has in a year. Incompetitence.

OK FOLKS please again Simplicity and Durability is again a marketing fallacy, having a entire extra MDS valvetrain and all the working to run it is not simpler than a plumbing and a turbo that is nearly as old as ice engines. And while we love our HEMI, here.. outside the Mopar community it is not thought of a durable, it is on almost all the lists of Do NOT BUY. the valvetrain you know the one we are happy to have 2 of again is poorly regarded almost universally. But that is ok the V8 durability for domestics is nearly all completely false, New Coyote has tons issues, and lets not forget the Triton, ... GM is not fairing better with LT actually all worse. V8 are cool because you got a lot of cubic inches in a small package. That is it call card, not durability... i6 is the durable configuration.

And don't get me wrong I am not being critical of bringing it back, it shouldn't have abruptly been cancelled..... What I clearly am being critical of is the absolute incompetence in launch the new powerplant. WHERE is the commercial " that there have HEMI? Nope Hurricane.... " Hell do Mike 201 says bring back the commercial with the guy getting gapped back to back at lights.

Yes it is sad they abruptly cancelled the Hemi, but it was pure incompetence the way the Hurricane is launched, time to admit that.
