The 2026 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL) has been spotted once again, this time showing off more of its refreshed look and upgraded features. KGP Photography captured the two-row Grand Cherokee Summit High Altitude testing, giving us the clearest view yet of what’s to come.

 
I'm not so sure the V-6 will be going away.
Trump is set to relax the fuel economy requirements and slash the EV requirements.
The Hemi might even come back.

I guess we'll have to wait until the 2026 is released to see.

meanwhile I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's so bold and or new about this 😂😂😂

I saw three things in this entire article

So that says to me this is the much needed replacement for the 3.6l and can be mounted longitudinal which means it can be mated to the new 880re transmission which means it can be a hybrid that puts out more than the current 4xe setup and based on that it can be used in any stla large platform as a base engine including the upcoming charger. What also caught my attention was that this is a standard output variant meaning there could be an H/O (glh/srt4) variant as well. This also means it could go in a stla medium platform which could spawn a nice little srt4 as well with a little hot tuning and an electric drive motor in the back for awd. Let's think though, this powertrain by itself is going to have more than 300lb-ft toque, guestimating in the 330tq-340tq range for jeep but let's say stellantis wants to offer a charger that competes with the ecoboost mustang. Bumping the power up to 340hp-390tq isn't really a stretch. If those numbers look familiar it's because they're the hp and torque ratings of the 2006 charger rt 5.7l hemi. Imagine that being the base charger SXT. That's not bad at all
 
No one wants anything of what you’ve described.

No to turbo fours - go buy a Mustang or Explorer if that’s your cup of tea.

I bought my Grand Cherokee because it was a RWD based unibody vehicle with a NA V6, which were increasingly rare.

With this new change, I’m out. May go take a look at the 2026 Honda Passport (3.5L V6).
 
I find it quite odd that FCA went through the effort and resources to modify the Pentastar V6 to operate on the Atkinson Cycle and work with hybrid operation for the Pacifica, but then not use it in the Grand Cherokee. At least the V6 will be used in the Ramcharger.
 
No way I and few others would consider a Grand Cherokee with a turbo four. Has Jeep not learned from the electrification fiasco now rampant across the industry? Has the abject failure of the Wagoneer S not taught them anything? Will the new Cherokee really come only with a hybrid? I’m out on that one too.
I’d accept a Hurricane Six, in either, but those are in short supply and having issues. Just keep the Pentastar Six in both and your customer base or keep ignoring buyers at their own peril. Jeep, have you not learned yet???
 
If you think Grand Cherokees sales are bad now (temporary plant shutdown week of April 28th), just wait until the 2026s start rolling into the lots. It's incredible that Pre-Covid (2019), the single five seat Grand Cherokee sold 242,000 units, out of a single plant.

Today, with two plants and two models (five and seven passenger), they can't hit that same number - sales last year were 216K. What an incredible waste / poor product planning.

Someone in the marketing department marketing is not reading the current situation. Buyers in this segment are being conservative with their desires and have tight wallets. The V6 is a proven unit and is backed up by the 8-speed automatic that receives good reviews. Offer that combo with lower prices. This is sort of the automotive equivalent of comfort food. Jeep can still sell the turbo four as the spicy dish on the menu.
 
I read the responses of both Bill & Cygnus and both give respectable perspectives. The thing is the bulk of the population buys vehicles with small turbo-4 engines because they are daily drivers with decent power and decent fuel economy and alot of people flocked to the 4Xe, trust me I see them alot where I work and not necessarily just because they're broke but for regularly scheduled maintenance. Cygnus brought up another valid point about the mustang and the Explorer. Both of those are extremely popular vehicles and the bulk of them are sold with the 2.3L Ecoboost turbo-4 so his direct mentioning of those two vehicles specifically shows that a turbo-4 powertrain is a popular option for people looking for a daily driver in an affordable entry-level type package. Doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the only powertrain available. Stellantis is probably going to stuff the Hurricane-6 into any vehicle that it can and most of the STLA Large & frame platform vehicles will be able to receive the Hurricane-6 in some way shape or form. Right now, the Mopar brand needs affordable volume sellers that move along in the same market that the rest of the volume selling vehicles move in. Hopefully, the lesson that Stellantis has learned is that you have to offer diversity in powertrains and not go all one way or the other. As far as keeping the pentastar, although it is a fine workhorse, let's look at Mopar's crosstown rival Ford and their 3.7L Cyclone V6. It was a decent V6 with 305hp just like the Pentastar and it was sold across the brand from Mustangs to F150 pickup trucks but it was replaced by the 2.3L in the cars and the 2.7L Ecoboost twin turbo V6 and Ford gained sales when it happened. Stellantis, though late, is using the same playbook that Ford has been using for the last 10 years or so, which worked well for them. The Hurricane for us will be what the Ecoboost is for Ford. Ford still has the 5.0L V8 in the Mustang and in the F150 along with the 6.2L Raptor R and we know the Hemi is coming back in certain capacities so one can only hope that we get a 6.2L in cars and SUVs above the Hurricanes, which will make sense. From an enthusiast standpoint, Yeah, I'm very excited that everything is going turbocharged. Simple bolt ons yield impressive gains with turbocharged engines so I'm for turbo I-4 and twin turbo I-6 powertrains with AWD.
 
Believe me, they won't lower the price. The price will remain the same and the powertrain will have regressed. It's a net move backward.

Unfortunately, I've asked all the insiders I know (Bob, TK, Butter Da Insider) if the Pentastar will still be offered / if it might come back ala the Hemi in the Charger/Ram in MY27 and MY28, and the answer for the Grand Cherokee is - 'no'.

There was a reference to an 2028 SRT Grand Cherokee in a TK video not that long ago in a screenshot from the Supplier Global Bulletin System, so while the Penstastar is dead, a halo Grand Cherokee with a V8 may be in the cards, but it will be stupid expensive.

The Hurricane is such a failure. So much additional cost and complexity vs the Pentastar and for what? A 1 MPG increase? Doesn't make any sense.

Nobody who has a Pentastar in their current vehicle is really lusting over a Hurricane if the Hemi is being brought back. Given the choice between the Hurricane and Hemi, people are going to take the Hemi.

And the funny part is the Hemi to cheaper to to build than the Hurricane. A GME-T4 is a non-starter for $40K+ vehicles. Keep that trash engine in Europe.

Agreed! Had the Pentastar in my 2013 Charger and loved it. Now I have it in my 2021 Durango GT. Love the engine! My daughter’s 2019 Grand Cherokee also has it and loves it. She is looking to trade up to the “L” this year before her baby is born, but not liking the 4 banger in such a big vehicle and still wants the 3.6. I told her to buy NOW!!
